You're saying Shelby was a situational pass rusher last year?
To my knowledge, Shelby was the base end last year with Wake gradually moving into even more of a specialist role. I think that will be Wake's full time role his year.
Shelby played significant snaps even before Wake was injured. As a matter of fact, Shelby played more snaps than Wake prior to the injury.
I think he was part of the problem in the run game last year. Others will disagree but I don't buy it. He was better than Wake vs the run but not very consistent in that he didn't make enough plays off single blocking. He was often single blocked (564 single blocks compared to 103 double blocks) and still did little to make an impact.
He got on the field to begin with because he was better vs the run than Dion Jordan and Cameron Wake. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
Branch is not a great pass rusher in that he's inconsistent (like Shelby) but he's decent vs the run. Not great there either but he's a little bigger than Shelby who was only 6'3 245 (he looks bigger). Branch is 6'4 260.
I also wouldn't sleep on Demontre Moore (6'5 250). I think he has potential if he can get out of his own head.
The one thing that worries me is the defensive line coach, Terrell Williams. I am not impressed yet. I think we are seriously missing Kacy Rodgers.
So much unrealized potential on the D-line.
Chris McCain, Dion Jordan, Demontre Moore, Terrence Fede, Andre Branch...We also have newly added Julius Warmsley and Cleyon Laing.
We already know Wake and Williams are making the team. Who are the other two out of that bunch? We will likely draft one high as well as adding some more FA's and UFA's. We really need two (or 4) young guys to step up this year due to our aging DE starters.

Gotcha, I tried getting tickets last year for the actual draft but got denied, even getting into the draft village was tough if I recall, good luck. Hawks and Cubs game (even though I'm a Sox fan) is a must do for anyone visiting.
