Suh..No Thanks!

Besides the money, besides we have too many other needs...this guy is a head case and eventually will implode in a key game. We have had enough of dumbass players. We need smart football players, not just great talented ones.

Sign him. One of the best inside linemen to play in the last ten years. Plus him AND Wake on the line? Please...its a field day.

Suh is one person set to make 18 mil a year. For that salary we could have.....

Devin McCourty, Clint Boling & Dan Williams.

There's 3 much needed starters and instant fixes.

I would take Suh he is a difference maker. I would have to take the chance, fine the crap out of him for penalties and games suspend but I would want this guy on my team. I would love for Brady to have to see him twice a year.

Money is the issue...Miami can't afford him.

I don't see him as a head case; he has some problems, but nothing serious (unless, of course, you are the one under his cleats while he is stepping on you.)

Doesn't have to be a key game for him to implode.

This guy is too talented to just dismiss him.

But, like I said, Suh is too expensive for Miami.

He's a future hall of famer as long as he stays healthy, If it costs a bit..so what? Dolphins can afford it by being smart with their contracts- and cutting the trash loose. Seems like this is the direction Hickey is taking.

He made 22 mill last year. He would have made 26m this year if they had franchised him.

I'd pay him a contract similar to what Gerald McCoy got. Suh is probably a little better player than McCoy but he's 1,000 times the risk.

I wouldn't offer him more than JJ Watt. Watt is the best defensive player in the league AND he had 3 TD receptions last year.

By now we all know that Watts team didn't make the playoffs and Suh's team did in 2014.

Watts team is 2-2 in the playoffs since 2011 and Suh's team is 0-2.

no chance he signs for anyone for 1 penny less than Watt got. you're kidding yourself if you think a time can sign him for "gerald mccoy" money. he'll get whatever he wants in a contract and as usual Miami will either break the bank and pay more than anyone else is willing to, or get used to drive up the price.
I am on the fence here but am leaning towards, what the hell, same old same old has gotten us nothing, let's sign a potential destructive force on D and salary cap be damned. More interesting than another 8-8 or signing 3 boring FAs for the same cost

I don't think he'll get what he wants and I don't think there will be as many teams interested in giving him a big contract as some expect.

I'd take him at the right price. he's not a guy I have to have at all costs. Watt would be if he were a free agent.

I'm ok taking a serious run at him. I'm not ok giving him a record setting deal with a record amount of guaranteed money.

Looks like it is becoming more real by the minute. Suh is actually in south Florida right now. His agent is Jimmy Sexton (same as Parcels, who is Tannenbaum's mentor).

This is going to shake things up.

Not quite half. It will be less than 1/3 of our cap as the cap goes up to around 150 mil next year. Should be around 20% of the cap.

This is the all-in move from Hickey and Philbin to save their jobs. They obviously realize that had we been stronger up front on defense last year, we likely win 3-4 more games and make the playoffs.

Coyle must still be insistent on the penetrating DT's philosophy and the abandonment of a NT/1 technique type of player at one spot. Suh will give us that ability but we still need another player next to him. Problem is, the best "penetrator" we have is Randy Starks and I doubt we can afford to keep him at the current rate. Earl Mitchell would suffice and is more well rounded at this point. He was better vs the run than Starks 2014.

Personally, if that type of player is that important, I would move up in the draft and take Leonard Williams instead of spending this big. Unfortunately they are not planning for the long haul as he may take some time to hone his skills as a complete player.

Also, giving up draft picks is never great for a team with so many needs for starters.

Signing Suh will also limit us in filling those other positions. We could still sign a 3rd tier DT or just go with what we have and try and develop the young guys.

Front 7

SDE Wake
DT Mitchell
DT Suh
DE Vernon/McCain

SLB Jordan/Misi (if not released)
MLB Tripp ???
WLB Jenkins

We all know Ellerbe is gone. Question for me is who else gets sacrificed to make room for new FA's. Misi, Wheeler, Mitchell, Starks...

I don't see this is philbin or hickey's call. It's Tannenbaum. He's the only one guaranteed to be here after next year and he wants to put his stamp on the team. He's not letting a lame duck coach and GM tie his hands beyond next year. I guess that's the upside to bringing Tannenbaum in---someone who has a stake in the team beyond just this last year. We saw how Ireland ruined us when he tried to save his ass in 2013. We are still dealing with his bad contracts trades and signings.

You don't make a move like this without a consensus from the Owner to VP to GM to HC.

You know how you fix the secondary issue?
Suh.

And hope he stays healthy, but that goes for every player we sign anyways.

well that's not been the MO in the past, which is why Ireland supposedly gave prior HC players that did not fit (that's the story anyway)
I think in this case, even more than any other, this decision is made by the owner (craves headlines) and Tannenbaum, and not 2 guys who are lucky to be around this year and won't be here next year most likley (kind of harsh for hicky, but that's the situtaiton when he was hired to work with a lame duck coach )

That's why Ireland was fired in favor of Philbin, who the owner likes and also quite the speculation. It's also in contrast to the fact that Hickey has full control over the the roster and reports to the owner.

Joe, you are far to smart to believe this crap. Tennenbaum has full control of the roster as was announced when he was hired. the team had to embarassingly retreat from its own statement the next day when it was clear they violated the rooney rule. but make no mistake tannenbaum has the final say on any big roster signings like Suh.

and phlibin is on his last legs here. 100% gone if we don't make the playoffs, regardless of whether ross "likes" him

I don't buy into hype and speculation very often. Ross said DH had final say. Until I see something (in the future) that exposes this as false...

like Hickey quitting, etc. I don't think he would stand for it to just hang around as a puppet all while doing all the grinding.

Tannenbaum was out of place as a personnel guy and is busy with researching analytics technology, sports science etc...

For all anyone knows, Tannenbaum was just spouting off and had to be put in his place....

and besides, Tannenbaum reports to the owner (same as Hickey and Philbin) so Ross has final say in moves like this because he has to write the check....

Your theory is not without logic and could wind up being true but it hasn't been proven yet.

ALSO...who is really going to put up much of an argument against Suh? This does not mean Hickey is not on board with the pursuing of NS...or at least investigating and making an offer. It's up to Aponte and Tannenbaum to worry about the cap ramifications.

joe, it wasn't tannenbaum spouting off, it was an official team press release stating he had final say on the roster. which is what made it so embarassing. ross is a total moron and is proof only that you don't need common sense to be a billionaire, nothing he does makes sense with this team

where's hicky going to go? he didn't even get an interview with his former team when they fired Domminick and he took the job only after 5 others turned us down, so it's not like he'd quit a few months before the draft and have a better job waiting for him. He's not likely back next year, though

Ross won the rights to receiver Mike Wallace two years ago, but that hasn’t worked out very well. Suh could end up working out even better. Or maybe not. Until we know whether Suh gives the Dolphins a realistic bump in their on-field fate, Suh will nevertheless create plenty of buzz and sell plenty of tickets and move plenty of merchandise in Miami.

When it comes to a contest between the Raiders and the Dolphins, Ross has ultimate ace in the hole — the absence of state income taxes in Florida. In California, the rate for the really rich is 13.3 percent.

So if Suh signs a deal that pays him $15 million per year in California, the Golden State will withhold $1.995 million in taxes. Per year. In Florida, the Sunshine State will take the grand total of zero dollars and zero cents from Suh’s game checks.

Over the course of a seven-year deal (if Suh is there for all seven), the difference becomes $13.965 million. In other words, he’d be working nearly one full year out of seven to pay for the privilege of living and working in Califoria.

Is sug using the dolphins as bait?

to resign with the lions or other team he wants to play for?

To get a bigger contract?
