Dolphins have informed Brian Hartline that they will be releasing him today, per source.

I figured he'd be getting the boot soley because of a lack of production. This opens the door for a first round WR.

Even though I think it was the right move due to his contract, it's still a sad day for me and I wish him nothing but the best.

Have to say this from a reporter's perspective: Once Brian Hartline got his money, his attitude changed. Completely. Ego through the roof.

He still performed the year after he got paid. Sorry to see him go. It's a rough business. No time for slumps. Who's next?

Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero

One comment on Hartline and some others getting cut. They performed better than some coaches who were not fired. So new players beware.

Well said!

He will probably go to the Patriots and perform like wes welker did for them, then we will say WTF....story of this franchise.

Yeah...I really don't know why the Patriots even bother to draft players.

If they just signed everyone we cut or let walk in free agency then they'd never lose another game.

How can such a great franchise be so stupid and not see this is clearly the way to go...

He will do well in a traditional WCO. He said he wanted to go closer to home (Canton, Ohio) and play for an established QB. He mentioned Indy. We saved 3.15 mil as a pre June 1st cut.

One thing that worries me is taking a top 12 offense and eliminating two starting WR's (possibly 3 overall) and possibly a TE. Leaves lots of questions.

I would have liked Hartline to resign at a more favorable price. Would have given us 3 good route runners w/ Clay & Landry w/ Wallace still a home run threat.Yep I still want Wallace for 2015

I like club rats!!

I liked Hartline, and I think he'll do better than last year and maybe even better than ever in a different system. However, that contract was made for such a release if production wasn't high. Low signing bonus high yearly salary. If there was any chance his production would be near last year's, 7 million is too much to pay for such production.

Honestly, a nice move by the Phins to give him maximum runway to find a new team.

Right or wrong, the F.O. decided Hartline was not a good fit in the new offense. Let's see what his replacement does this year...whoever that might be...

I assume they will be inserting another outside receiver in his spot and keeping Landry in the slot.

If they release Wallace and Gibson, it's hard telling what our WR corp will look like this season.

They will HAVE to sign at least one FA with the purpose of starting at one of the outside spots.

Jeremy Maclin could be an option to replace Wallace but not likely given the price.

Dez Bryant is not an option nor is D. Thomas as both will be at the very least, tagged.

Randall Cobb is a slot receiver. Torrey Smith is too buku for a #2.

That does not leave many (if any) quality guys that can start. Definitely not a #1 WR.

Remaining options to replace Hartline....

Michael Crabtree, Cecil Shorts are the two next best.

Then...

Kenny Britt (Joe Philbin says no)
Hakim Nicks

Crabtree and Shorts could be the only viable options unless one of our young guys step in....

Rashard Mathews, Matt Hazel or bring back Damian Williams.

Anyone still think we won't be drafting a WR high?

or they could keep Wallace.

I'd sign Shorts.

And I'd draft two WRS early.

One of: White, Cooper, Parker, Strong, DGB

And one from: Dorsett, Perriman, Smith, Hardy, Crowder, Diggs, Greenberry

I'd have no issues if our 1st two picks were WR's. And I'd have no issue with taking 3 wr's in this draft, even if we kept Wallace for another year.

I really saw no reason for us to draft a WR in the first 3 rnds. Landry, Mathews, Wallace a renegotiated Hartline, Hazel maybe a FA like Hankerson for 1 year (if he is healthy). WR was pretty stable.

Should use the draft to stabilize another position like DT of the defensive backfield. Now WR is look unstable. Looks like Tanne might lose 2 or 3 of his receivers from 2014. Talking about helping the guy out.

And this my friends is the latest example of why these Dolphins continue to wander in the wilderness.

Dumb and dumber...

I have no issues with cutting ties with Hartline. He'a good, lunch pail type WR but he's NOT a good fit for this offense and he's not worth anything near 7-8 mill a year.

He's never been much in the YAC department and he's never been a redzone target.

I'm fine going in a different direction there. His skill set if fairly easy to replace.

But I am going to be pretty bummed if we dump Wallace for nothing.

Losing him means a HUGE step backwards on offense next year. I'm not willing to write off next year as a transition year. There really isn't a need to at this point.

We all expected this. Cap must be freed up. With Gibson and Hartline cuts, they have about $4.2m of free cap now. More to come.
