Great post Truth, Wow, that was an impressive letter.. I can't help but have mad respect for someone that speaks from the heart as Gordon did in that letter.. I hope that the league can find a way to work with him.. Drinking a couple drinks, should not be something that gets this kid suspended from the league for an entire year...
We live in a society that loves to tear people down, but at the same time, loves a comeback story even more then a tear down... How can you not root for this kid? After reading that letter I know I will be rooting for him and hope the best for his future... Taking away his future isn't something that will help him, and that should matter to those making the decisions on his future...

he really understates a lot of what happened. he says he was suspended for missing a walk thru, but wasnt' the reason reported as being he was drunk? also he says he agreed to alcohol testing even though he never "had a problem with alcohol," but duh, the conditions were imposed after a DUI.
Anyway, he can be had for cheap in a trade or maybe nothing at all. What the hell, let's roll the dice and sign him! He'd only get a small amount, incentive laden contract

I'm with berk on this one, I got an idea Josh, if you don't want Sir Charles, Steven A and C.C. talking about you, why don't you try staying out of the headlines. Plenty of guys in the NFL had rough childhoods and they seem to stay out of the blotter.
One one hand you have the theory of a guy who is trying to form a team of high character, hard working, non diva, great work ethic type men. I have no problem with that. I don't like divas or show-offs. I gravitate towards sportsmanship.
On the other you have the question of "why can't you deal with personalities that differ from your own"? Maybe it's your (HC) deficiency?
Both teams in the SB certainly have no issue in taking in troubled players....and they ARE in the Super Bowl. Do you really think Pete Carroll likes dealing with morons like Marshawn?
Was the risk/reward that difficult in the Vontae Davis situation. He was a top 5 CB this year and we were...in need of a CB. Was he really that big of a problem?
Were you really that disgusted by Karlos Dansby's attitude? Yes, he got lazy but he also turned in two pretty good seasons after the left. One was PB level...and we are in need of a true MLB.
Same for Brandon Marshall. Now you just swapped the same issues for a MORE expensive, less talented player in Mike Wallace....and by everyone's account, we are now in search of a large target receiver....hmmmmmm???
At what point to you look in the mirror and figure out, what you're doing isn't working?

I have a problem with testing for alcohol.
Its not illegal to drink. Its illegal to drink and drive.
I don't know enough about his background to say whether he's an alcoholic or not, but if its true he hasn't smoked weed since he came into the NFL then he's probably not an addict when it comes to booze. He probably just has maturity issues.

I think he wrote it, it came from the heart, hard for someone else to do that for you... Now did he have someone maybe help edit it, probably... But give the kid the benefit of the doubt... He went to Baylor, not too shabby of a school... Another Baylor guy, RGIII is pretty articulate, so I wouldnt disrespect Gordon's intelligence by saying he didn't write it, that isnt fair...

there were several comments on Yahoo about this article. Many of the people were against him speaking as dolphaholic does about his way of accidently getting himself into situations.
granted I don't think he is a gang banging murderer
with pot legal in 2 states I'm not sure how the testing can be so tough now.

I don't know but the reasoning of the NFL MIGHT be that if we test a guy at random points (but even moreso at designated times) and he ends up with alcohol in his blood, it JUST MIGHT BE TIME TO ALERT HIM that he has a substance abuse problem, albeit not drugs but alcohol.
Sly (of Sly and the Family Stone) has been sleeping in his van under a bridge in Los Angeles (he just won a big case) because of substance abuse, albeit probably drugs.
Whether drugs or alcohol. Better to bring it to light and get it under control.
Suspended for the year AGAIN. Browns still own his rights and he hasn't accrued much time to become a FA. I believe he has only accrued 2 seasons in 3 years. Two more to go.
