PFT confirms FOX report Mike Tannenbaum is heading to Dolphins. He'll be the executive V.P. of football operations, starting Feb. 1.
Firstly, that is not an org chart. It's a staff directory. Relationships are not explicit.
I fail to understand why Hickey needs an overseer. And I fail to understand what credentials Tannenbaum brings to the team other than he built a team that qualified for two AFC Championship games (both lost). What has this man ever won?

LOL, sorry. The logic of this hire escapes me at the moment.

Me too.....and I usually defend Ross on this board
I will say this: Joe Philbin has said many times that a condition of his accepting the HC job was a direct reporting relationship to Ross. If Ross asked him to consider working for Tannenbaum, the answer was clearly "no" and Ross didn't want to rock the boat over it.

To clarify I'm told that the Mike Tannenbaum hire is an indictment on Dennis Hickey as GM. Obviously team isn't fully confident in Hickey.

#Dolphins had concern more over Hickey's day-to-day handlings than player acquisition. Feel he's better as personnel guy than running ops.
So you have two sides....The coaching side and the personnel side. The personnel side basically outperforms the head coach so you hire someone to babysit the more successful one? WOW.
Next steps....
1. Jets hire our director of college scouting
2. Hickey quits
3. WTF
OK, So we got a HC, the man with the plan, an administrator with SB pedigree from a winning system and organization, who got the QB finally, installed the system finally, got rid of Ireland and straighten up scouting, after like 2.5 decades, and we bring in this blabbering fool with who no one will be able to get in a word sideways, to fack up things midstream when things are looking to be finally on upswing?!?

Disagree with the above. I may agree with the below.

OK, so why not give Hickey a solid ops guy to handle the details for him while he focuses on picking good players? The approach Ross picked only sets up a collision somewhere down the road.

And Hickey reports directly to Tannenbaum who reports directly to Ross, but Hickey still has control over the roster.....hmmmm..... Saw this coming a mile away... Tannenbaum and Ross were like two long lost chums when I saw them in the box a couple months ago...

This siunds to me like Tannenbaum will be running the team because Ross won't be there as often for the day to day stuff. Philbin will still be doing all of the coaching stuff unfettered, Hickey will be doing the personnel stuff and Dawn Aponte will be doing the money stuff...with Marino posing for pictures and kissing babies.
That leaves Ross to spend money and do whatever he does with the majority of his time.
I'm not sure the titles and who reports to whom really has anything to do with anything.
Just spoke with a local beat writer and saw takes from some National press. I have yet to get any POSITIVE feedback on this move and had none to offer.

I don't think it matters all that much.
Philbin's contract is up after this next season. You can be sure that if he's fortunate to get a second deal from Ross, he will be reporting to Tannebaum in that agreement..
so sick of the incompetent ross. so now what happens next year when it's time to fire philbin? once again we will be hamstrung by an existing GM (tannenbaum not going anywhere after 1 year) which will scare away any decent experencied coach we could hire.
so guys, let's write off the next 3-5 years as well.
almost done with this franchise

The beatings will continue until morale improves.
I gleaned a good point from my overnight e-mails and correspondence...Tannenbaum would provide an anchor point if Ross fires Philbin next season. But for now there's no getting past the fact that Hickey was demoted and that his ongoing control of the roster and the draft is merely ceremonial now. This is the problem I have with the Tannenbaum hiring...how Ross positioned him. Hickey did a good job last season and was rewarded by being demoted. Not a very motivational act by Ross at all.
Armando Salguero called Ross "inept" yesterday. I wouldn't go that far but this move doesn't invoke confidence by any stretch, given the facts as we the public understand them.
