You're serious, aren't you dolphin, asking if the Dolphins would pick Mariota if he falls to them?
There is a good possibility that he will be the number one pick in the draft, and if not that, at least top 5.
He isn't going to fall to the Dolphins. Yeah, yeah, I know, Marino fell, but the class of '83 was QB-rich, unlike this class.
Cap, this class is not as rich as Marino's class and maybe not even as Tanny's class but is probably next with Winston, Mariota, Hundley and possibly almost assuredly Cody Kessler/

OF course I'm serious someone mentioned him maybe not being in the top 10, so thus I asked the question off of that.
I did not say I think he would make that fall. I think he will go in the top 5 personally.
I don't see the Raiders nor Vikings picking a QB. so that is 2 spots off the board. Jags no, Redskins no, bears, falcons no. Giants probably not. Rams not. Titans likely.
The question for me really is..."will Tennessee draft Winston"?
They need a QB. Otherwise they go with Mettenberger. Would they REALLY go all in on another questionable QB after the Jake Locker experiment failed? They wasted 3-4 years on that guy.
They could trade the pick but I'm not sure who would actually pay to get it. I would say Washington but that would be tough since they gave up so much for RG3 just 3 years ago.....BUT he is still a HUGE ???
The next team that would do something like that is the Jets but they just drafted Geno.
The Bears? Rams? Browns?
If I were the Tennessee GM. I have to take a chance on him. Even if you are wrong (character-wise), the set back is no worse than wasting more time with bad QB's.
I think they have to take him @ 2 if the Bucs pass.

It really depends on what offense you run.
If you run a spread offense that mixes in the read-option and West coast principles then you want mariota. If you run a more traditional nfl offense then you want Winston.
I'm not sure that TB or Tenn run a scheme that fits mariota.
Winston has completed 65 percent of his passes in 2014 for 3,559 yards with 24 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
Mariota has completed 68 percent of his passes for 3,783 yards with 38 touchdowns and two interceptions. On the ground, he's run for 669 yards (5.7 average) with 14 touchdowns.

Nope.
But my point remains. If anyone thinks gaudy college stats matter one iota in evaluating and projecting a QB's nfl career then they are fooling themselves.

I'm biased because I am an FSU alumnus, but if I was the GM of the Bucs I would take Winston #1. Beyond the physical tools and the mental grasp of the pro game, both of which are elite, he has that "IT" factor that all the great ones have.
Risks? Immaturity and bad behavior, which is why I write in the standard character clauses and penalties into his deal.
Put another way: if it were the Dolphins drafting first this year I would STILL draft Winston (or trade down). He's that good. This is not a knock against Tannehill, whom I am bullish on, but we're dealing with an elite QB prospect here.

You don't need a few years to validate my statement though, I can show you multiple national draftniks that have said the exact same thing I said (where do you think I got it from?)
And my statement pretty much covers my own arse by saying "you never know how it will develop", in other words if a 6th rnd Tom Brady or even a 3rd rnd Russel Wilson type emerge, then that's pure luck really.
I would say the pre draft grade for qb in the 2015 draft is weak. Does not even compare to 2013 - Luck, Tanne, RG III, Weeden,Osweiller, Foles and Cousins were all rated to go in the first 3 rnds.
This year only 3 qbs are rated as 3rd round or higher Mariotta, Winston & Hundley. None are close to Luck but I would rate all higher than Tanne coming out of college.
Winston if he cleans up his character will be the best in the nfl.
Mariota - will take time to develop Oregon runs a spread O where in games I have watch he throws off the first read most of the time. Kaepernickish but he is a better thrower than Kaepernick.
Hundley - I like at times and others I don't. Not sure if he was hindered by the talent around him at UCLA or not.
all should be gone by the 2nd round. The kid from Baylor should go in rnd 2 also because he is the last qb in this draft that could stick on a nfl roster. The kid from CO State has a good arm and some folks like the kid from East Carolina, in the 3 games that I saw him play I did not like him.
