We will not make it at 9-7 joe.

Hope iam wrong but thats the way i see it.

10-6 maybe but my hopes of beating NE are very low.

Even at 10-6 we need help. And need other teams to lose.

I know. we have to win out. No two ways about it.

Then we also need for a few teams to go away. Right now only the Chargers, Ravens, Steelers & Texans are ahead of us for the WC. We are the current 9th seed.

Baltimore (8-5) has Jags, Hou, Browns (10-6)

Steelers (8-5) have Falcons, KC, Cincy (9-7 or 10-6)

Texans (7-6) have Colts, Ravens, Jags (8-8)

SD has 49ers, Denver & Chiefs! (They could go 0-3 and fall to 8-8 real easy)

If Steelers and Texans fall to records shown above, we can still get in.

The handling of the last three games is crucial starting with Sunday's game with the Patriots. If the Dolphins play miserably, get blown out of the stadium, that alone, IMO, could be the death knell to Joe Philbin's head coaching job. If we lose, but hang in there until the end, he'll survive, unless the next games are losses. If we lose by a small margin to the Patriots, beat the Jets and Vikings, I think Philbin will be around for another season.

I also must add that injuries that eliminate a player or injuries that hamper a player's ability to run, tackle or block, plague every team. The better teams may lose some ground, but have back-ups that step in and play almost good enough to be starters. The teams with poor records, not only have weaker starters and don't play optimally, but when injuries happen, like they have with the Dolphins of late, second stringers prove to be only bodies on the field filling a position, not performing the position very well.

The knee injury to Charles Clay has removed much of the short threat and passes between the linebackers and secondary. Playing lame when he has played, really hurt the offense. His back-up blocks well but is not as athletic as Clay, so we've lost a go-to player for most of the season.

Finnegan's injury replacements have merely filled in. We lost a bit of pass defense there. Koa Misi's injuries have left a big gap in MLB. His play was okay, but not great. There are a dozen MLBs better than he is when he's not injured. When he plays hurt, or we get a substitute, our running defense is lousy.

MLB is a position we need to improve upon. Maybe we can get a young stud free agent. Is Luke Kuechly coming up for a new contract. He's first rate, like Zach Thomas.

If we get blown out in NE I don't think Philbin coaches the final 2 games.

You will be calling for philbins head as well when we get beat 51-3 against the pats.

And it pains me to say this...........But between all the injuries that weve had and the current head coach that we have , we are just trash. ADD the D coordinator to that...Trash...

We just cant come out and win a game when we need to.
(((((Ravens this year....)))) final two games last year.

This organization needs a facelift.

And count me in as one of the most positive fans ever on this site.

But ive reached the limit.

First, I think it's possible we beat New England and even win out and maybe make the playoffs but the problem is not just with Philbin's specific mistakes. It is just that he is not head man material. He never was. That's why he spent time in 22 separate jobs as an Assistant and was never appointed head coach, not in high school, junior college or college. Leave it to the Miami Dolphins to name such a guy head coach for the first time. (That's without ever having been one in college).

He should be gone no matter what.

I feel ya, sam. I let myself think this year was going to be different. We looked better, Tanne looked better, but right when I thought this team was different the same old phins surfaced against the Ravens.

I really couldn't care much less if the staff is retained or not and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they were replace by some reject retread like Rex Ryan.

If we go the coordinator route I want Darrel Bevell from Seatlle. I want to see a defense that flies to the ball.

Bevell is an OC.

I think I'd rather see a defensive coach who will retain Lazor.

Todd Bowles?

I start thinking and i say to myself..

There is someone worst than us. Like the jets...

At least we do not have lunatic players like geno smith saying something like at times he has played at pro bowl level.

I would almost agree but I'm not sure that Quinn is just not reaping the benefits of what Gus Bradley had in place with a very talented defense. Gotta credit the GM as well.

Quinn doesn't have much of a resume (less than Philbin) but you just never know who that next John Harbaugh is going to be.

Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Oakland, there are MANY teams worse than us.

What I want in a HC is a leader who will motivate players and trust his coordinators (only stepping in when necessary). I don't want a power-hungry control-freak (JJ,Harbaugh). I don't want a pushover (Wanny). I don't want a guy who can't commit to the team (Saban). I don't want a guy who only pretends to be a coach, but doesn't really accomplish anything (Cameron, Sparano).

Makes we wish we would have given Bates or Bowles at least a full year to see what they could do....but most owners prefer big names and hype over good coaching.

That being said, I'm not sure what category Philbin fits in. What I've seen since he's been here is steady improvement but no major overnight turnarounds (like what happened with Parcells/Pennington). I believe this is how you build long-term success...which is something we haven't had since Shula left. Consequently, I appear to be the lone vote that wants to give Philbin one more year. Call me crazy, but I think he deserves that much. At least we haven't regressed (like we did under Wanny, Cameron, and Sparano).

What is your definition of "regress" Monti?

If Miami finishes 8-8, where does that fit in? If they finish 7-9, where does that fit?

Unless Miami wins out, I don't see where this team has progressed. They have been very inconsistent all year long, just like they have been since Philbin has been HC.

As I mentioned earlier, I refer to other posts indicating they don't want Philbin fired as that will lead to starting all over again. I countered with Ross, et al, will have to just find a coach with similar philophies about offense and defense where Miami will not have to start all over.

Probably easier said than done, but it is a thought.

Ask me this question at 4:30pm EST on December 28. What I saw versus Baltimore has put me on the fence.

I'd fire him at this point even if he wins out.

He would have earned another year at 10-6, but I'm convinced he's not a difference maker as a coach. I don't want to waste another year before I start looking for a guy who is.

I just don't see these players risking knees and health for "pride".
Mathematically we might still be in it until tomorrow afternoon but, realistically the season is over.
I fully expect the players to walk through the final games just like the past two seasons. Joe is not a motivator.

"Pride" is something that is constantly thrown out there when it refers to losing teams.

As far as your comment (above) that the players will "walk through" the rest of the season, I would have to disagree, in that these guys are playing for their jobs. It may not be a job with the Fins, but there are other teams that will be looking at our players to see what they bring to the field during hard times.

Oh, BTW, many of them are also playing for a pay raise. In today's sports world, that's all that needs to be said.

Isn't it true, also, where guys that "walk through" quite often get hurt because they aren't as focused?

Understood but, by "walk through" I meant like the uninspired performance on display in the last two games of last season. Just good enough to look like you're playing football but, not good enough as a team to win.

Reports today that Philbin's status will be decided by how the team finishes this season. Loss today likely means he is gone.

Could the #Dolphins go after Jim Harbaugh if Joe Philbin is fired? I’m told that’s (still) not something they plan to do.

That's funny because Armando is reporting today that Ross will pursue Harbaugh again if Miami doesn't make the playoffs?
