Tom Gamble intrigues me...... But other then his resume and roster, don't know all that much about him... Do you know much about him?

I think there is a chance that Ross hires Marino as a VP and then brings him in to hire the next GM. And Marino will have final say... Ross needs to be protected with what he does, bringing in Marino gives him that protection.... IMO Ross is talking to Marino right now... Not sure Marino bites...

Bill Cowher. He's ready to move upstairs. Jimmy Johnson was the best Personal man in the NFL for 10 yrs. He's local. Maybe he wants to wear a suit and give a New coach a shot?

Not doubting you Crowder, but where did you hear that Ross and Marino are having discussions?
If Marino would put 100% effort into that job, he would be terrific for this organization, but would he really want to do that? His present job is both cushy and lucrative; why would he want to leave it?
is just in my opinion... I didn't hear anything, I just think if Ireland and Sherman are fired. Ross will look to Marino, who he has developed more of a relationship as of late to hire the next GM.... Ross, doesn't want to stumble, he is going to want someone like Marino to be in charge of deciding the next GM rather then him... Marino in his Inside the NFL interview expressed some desire... We will see....

We don't need another GM...but I wouldn't mind bringing in someone to be Ireland's boss and run the footbal personnel side of things while Dawn Aponte runs the finacial side of the house.
Yeah, Cap a few weeks ago wasn't there a story about Marino saying that he (not an exact quote) "wanted to get back into football." We even discussed this in a thread on this board and the consensus opinion (not mine) was that he would soon get bored and want to quit.

The real question is what gives anyone the impression that the guys on this list would be worse than Ireland? Ireland has been here since 2008. Is anyone happy with the drafts since then? Does anyone think he's amassed a roster that's championship caliber? How many years of no playoffs are enough to convince everyone that this arrogant former ball boy can't get the job done? For my money, I'd love to see DeCosta come here. He's learned from Ozzie Newsome who's forgotten more football than Ireland will ever know.
He's amassed talent, but he has just as easily let it go, Dansby, Bush, and hell I even saw Sean Smith playing for the KC Chiefs yesterday not to mention Vontae Davis, etc.
Now Lousaka Polite may not be signed with anyone and many of you pointed to his stats when I TOLD YOU LETTING HIM GO WAS A MISTAKE but how many games have we lost JUST THIS YEAR because we were unable to make 4th down and less than a yard?
So, praise Ireland for his acquisitions but fire his butt for his releases.

Resumes. Look at the players those teams have brought in during their tenures and the success they've had.
Scot McCloughan had a huge hand in bringing in players like Dashon Goldson, Frank Gore, Justin Smith, Joe Staley and Patrick Willis.
Has Ireland EVER had that kind of success? 5 star PB players in a few years time...How many stars has Ireland drafted?
Also look at the mentors....Bill Walsh, Belichick, Jimmy Johnson, etc

All Ross needs to do is get him a hot assistant. JK
Seriously though, I have never thought of Dan Marino as one of the great football minds who i doubt really understands today's game and economics.
As a figure head and sounding board, maybe. Final say?, not quite.
