I'm with ya!! My wife won't want to be on the same floor of the house as we four Phin fans when the game starts! My youngest son hardly remembers a time when 'our' team didn't suck! Here's to hoping tonight changes that smileys with beer.

I WAS thinking that, even if we don't win, going in 3-0 and making a good showing on prime time TV against a good veteran team like the Saints, in their own house no less would gain us that much needed respect. BUT since the PATSITES found a way yesterday, we NEED this game.

The NEED games are the ones we have always seemed to choke on over the last 10 years. Winning tonight will get THAT monkey off our backs also. GO PHINS!

The Leon Lett game was a fun, fluky game; but I don't look back at 1993 with great football memories. Sorry, but to me 1993 was the worst Dolphins season ever. The Phins were 9-2, but lost 5 straight to end the season. They gave up 125 points over the final 3 weeks of the season.

That said, tonight is huge. A win tonight and the entire NFL and its fanbase will know that the Phins are legit contenders for the first time in a long, long time.

Allright .........we can't win them all. We go into the Bye week 4-1 its still a great season in the making and we have a great Team to build and improve on. Two yrs ago we had Chad Henne behind center and a coach that was psyched scoring field goals.

Look at how far we have come! Believe people!

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

We have come to a coach who is no better when you get down to it and will lose MORE games because he will throw away the few we have a chance to win which that conservative coach would have won at least.

Just Saw this.

No better!? Then Tony Saprano? Really? Com on. Philbin can't control injuries. Yes some of the Play calling was out there. But I commend them for going down swinging instead of being struck out looking for a walk......

You'll lose more game by being reckless than you'll ever lose by being conservative but I'm not realistically advocating getting Tony back. I'm saying we should move on to something better.

> Philbin can't control injuries.

Was it an injured player who "game planned" strategy in that game?

Was it an injured player who didn't 2nd half adjust when they second half adjusted to us?

Was it an injured player who called a toss back on 4th and an inch?

I'm not talking about injuries or even missed tackles, etc.

I'm talking about things that will surely lose us games in the future.

It's time for someone to take a plane trip like they did to Harbaugh (only don't make it public).

Well, I respect your viewing the matter in that way.

I, on the other hand, view the play calling more like spending the mortgage money on lotto tickets.

Lets take that play where they were 3rd and inches in the first Quarter.

I guess Philbin & Co thought everyone would expect a QB sneak so they tried the outside run. We know what happened. But I like the Thinking . Outside the box. Maybe they thought Our Oline couldn't handle the push so they tried something else. Its one game out of 16. Did you think we would go 16-0? Relax. Lets regroup into the Bye week and get everyone healthy. This will be a playoff season. I guarantee it. Next season we can start thinking bigger. winking smiley

Yeah, I know eesti but I heard something that said something like you are responsible for all decisions that you voluntarily put in the hands of others. They are your surrogates. You trust them.

Now that's not completely fair in all situations but when there such a critical point in the game, if you surrender the choice you cannot avoid the consequences.

That has to do with the inch thing.

But even as to the other complaints about coaching, the failure to adjust and the failure to adjust to their adjustments of us, it would be nice for head coaches to be able to say "all I do oversee everything" but I don't think you can avoid responsibility that easily.

I'm sure Philbin hears the play being called and approves it before its in the huddle? Regardless.....if that play worked and they score then he is a Genius. It didn't and they settled for a field goal so its horrible play calling. Again.....I bet the Oline play had something to do with it.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I realize this thread is about our coaching staff, but how can that aspect of the organization be pointed at (only)?

Sure, there were some questionable calls out there, but on the other hand, the plays are there and our guys didn't make them, for one reason or another. Good example? Wallace not catching the bomb. That's what he is making $60M for...catch those bombs! Do I think he is a waste of Miami's money? No, and they have to call more down field plays for him; maybe he just needs to warm up.

But on the other hand, our OLine has to give RT a little time to look down the field. Add to that, RT, at times, holds the ball too long.

Get all that together, and we won't be looking to replace our coaches.

It's a work in progress.

Not only get everyone healthy, but start looking at replacing/changing up players on the roster. Our OLine needs some serious retooling. If we don't have the guys on the roster, Ireland needs to see what he can do about finding at least a starter from another team.

I seriously doubt it.

You have 25 seconds from the time the ball is placed to know the spot, the yardage you have to go for 1st down, to choose a play, communicate it to the QB (very hard to do in a place like the Super Dome), have him communicate it to the players, and then get everyone in place at the line of scrimmage to change the play or snap the ball.

There really isn't time to debate play calls, or cancel one and have him choose another after the call is made.

I'm sure Philbin has input as to run, pass, kick, etc before the play is called, but once that decision is made, its all Sherman.

Keep in mind. They talk about this stuff all week while gameplanning for the opponent.

What's out best play in 3rd an inches...3rd and a foot, 3rd and 1, 3rd and 1+, 3rd and 2.

You know those plays where you have to call timeout because because you break the huddle with 3 seconds left on the play clock?

Those happen because the OC was slow getting a play called.

Coaches can only put players into a position to succeed. Some coaches are better at that than others.

But players have to execute. They have to beat the guy in front of them, or nothing the coaches do matters at all.

totally stupid call 3rd and a real inch. Tannehill under threw the ball to Wallace, he had slow down and wait for it thus letting the DB make a play

I agree SamSam that the players did not play a good game.

But when the coaches do everything right, it's easier to isolate the cause of a loss to players.

But should we have to worry about coaching mistakes as well as player failures?

I didn't see the Saints having to overcome COACHING mistakes as well as the many mistakes THEIR players made.

Bob, the saints had one of those games like we had against the jest last season, one of those games where everything goes right and nothing goes wrong.
Philbin is obviously still learning on the job, just like Tannehill, the other 2nd year players and the rookies. I would say that even the vets like Wallace have a lot of room for improvement.
So far we are off to a much better start than where we were at this point last season so, the trend is positive. Thank God we lost our first game against an elite team. We weren't going undefeated so, imagine the reaction if we had lost the first game to some team like buffalo or the jest.
Now, if we go into a three game losing streak then I suspect that more fans will be questioning Philpin's credentials.
Until then, the guy deserves a little slack.

Understood, and I'm sure no one here is disagreeing. Bottom line with the coaches: "The Buck Stops Here." That's just the way it is in life, except for our government, of course, but I'm not gonna go there.

The 3rd and inches play where Thomas goes outside....I personally would have taken it up the middle, with either RT or Thomas. But, I also understand the thinking of the coaches: Thomas comes in, the D is thinking he goes thru the middle (he is the bigger back), so the middle gets clogged. Take it outside to fool the D. Good plan, however, the blocking wasn't there and it made the coaches look like dumbasses. If it had worked...well, you know how that goes.

I offered an explanation for Wallace dropping the long bomb (although he should have caught it). I mentioned I "kinda" understand, as Miami hasn't been going long very often, so Wallace "may" have been out of practice in judging the long ones. But, on the other hand, I am sure they practice those long plays every day in practice, so....

I am not advocating any of the coaches being fired, either now or at the end of the season. Philbin, more specifically, should not be. Although it is his second season, I still consider him a rookie. He is just now getting his fee wet and getting into situations that he will learn from, which in turn will make him a better coach.

Think about it....many of us here were clamoring for Ross to hire Fisher. How are both teams doing right now?

Another poster mentioned hiring Gruden. At this point in time, I wouldn't touch Gruden nor Cowher. They have been out of it too long and the fire no longer burns.
