Guess it was that or nothing. Plus they saved $2.6 million in cap space. Bess will have a break out year. Quality person, I wish him the best.
I really liked Bess, although he never made big plays and was strictly a slot WR.
Bess will be at least the 3rd option at WR behind Gordon and Little. He will also have a lousy QB throwing to him, so I wouldn't expect a breakout year.
Considering he was going to get cut if he didn't get traded, I would say getting something is better than nothing.
There's also more to consider. Bess had a sore back and didn't play the last two games that the management felt he could have played, even though these were meaningless garbage games with no shot at a playoff berth. I think that situation could have possibly created some animosity between Bess and his bosses.
Too bad. I really like Bess. Whether the trade with Cleveland amounts to anything of value in return for us remains to be seen. I know for sure he'll help them to keep drives alive, and I wish him the best. At this point I'm at least relieved that he's not with the Pats.
