Ertz will be gone by our 2nd pick in round 2, and I like Kelce over Escobar and Reed.
If I take Tavon Austin #1, I don't want another small WR. Need a guy who can line up in all 3 spots.
Trade Davone Bess and John Jerry for a 3rd round pick (save 3.5 mil on cap)
Release Dan Carpenter (save 2.7 mil)
Sign Chris Houston, Eric Winston
1-12 Jonathon Cooper LG
1-25 Tyler Eifert TE
2-42 traded to MN
2-54 Stedman Bailey WR
3-77 traded to MN
3-80 Darius Slay CB
3-82 Jamie Collins DE
4- Jon Bostic, LB
5- NT
7-Traded

Which QB in the draft has a potentially bigger impact on this team than Austin in the slot and returning kicks?
Not saying there isn't one. Just that I don't see one whose upside is so much greater than then next dozen CB's that I have to have him.
I've seen Xavier Rhodes mocked to us. I think he's more Sean Smith than we need for this system.
I lover Jamar Taylor and Jordan Poyer and David Amerson for our system.
The only one of them I've seen consistently off the board before #42 is Amerson.

Stop it.
Patterson is a project who did LOUSY in his interviews at the combine. Since he went the JUCO route as a non-qualifier out of High School you have to question his intelligence and his ability to transition to the NFL...especially considering his stats at UT were less than overwhelming.
Austin is a football player. His production has been far far better than Pattersons at every level.
Yes he's small. He's in the Percy Harvin/Darren Sproles Mold but he's a baller.
He's a WR who can return kicks. He's not a KR pretending to be a WR.
He could be to our offense what Welker and Percy Harvin have been to their offenses.
He might not be our pick. he might not be the best pick at #12. but he's every bit as good a choice as a gamble like Paterson and maybe better.
I'd say we are in pretty good shape considering we have 9 draft selections and are going in with no glaring holes.
Two CB's, a RG, DE and an OT are what we need as of now but we could end up filling at least two more of those positions in FA.
That's 9 picks to fill 3 spots. It gives us options to trade up or take BPA.
It's hard to say what Ireland will do at CB between Marshall and Patterson. Also, to see if Carroll makes the cut this year.
One thing I do know is that we need 3 good CB's to start the season and some better depth behind them. Not much chance we go into the season with 2 rookie CB's again....maybe one and another for depth.
We REALLY need an upgrade on the line. A stud guard would help out tremendously. Better guard play with Eric Winston could be what we need to turn the corner.
it would be great is some QBs get into the top 11. It seems like G Smith will go in the top 10, if one more QB could squeeze in there, it means we will for sure get a top-10 talent at #12.
It seems like we will have a choice of at least
(1) one of the top 3 OTs (though I don't want us to take him)
(2) one of the top 2 OGs (I could live with it)
(3) Tavon Austin
(4) one of the top pass rushers or LBers
only position of need we'd be out of luck at is CB barring a trade up

Unless he drops because of a run on QB's, OT's OG's and DT's and pass rushers...we could jump from 12 to 8 with only one 3rd round pick and net a starting CB for 5 years minimum.
I have heard rumors that teams like Buffalo and AZ could reach for a QB just because of desperate need and small rookie contracts.
Mayock rates EJ Manuel as the 2nd QB and some had Glennon jumping up as well as Barkley going to Buffalo. You just never know.
Nobody thought anyone would trade up that high for Mark Sanchez....Jake Locker went at 8 when most said he was a mid to low round QB.

Don't forget Jarvis Jones. One of these players will fall to us when the QB's start coming off the board.
Indeed he did Berk... Bryan Cox had the condition too. It doesn't always present a problem, but the chance that it can and his existing medical history is the reason why Jones will drop. I think he will get selected somewhere around mid-low first round.
I remember after we drafted Milner the first comment from some GM type was they he was suprised he was even on our draft board, as most teams didn't have him due to his medical condition. Milner in the 1st, Andrew Greene in the 2d, THAT could have been the worst draft in NFL history. At least we got something from Milner---traded him for Troy Drayton if I am recalling correctly
this was in the shula years where it seemed we were a step slow on info gathering. I remember a rumor going around after we drafted Terry Kirby that he was blind in one eye (might even have been true) and Shula had no idea, asked someone "did we just draft a blind guy"?
