I wasn't expecting the LB moves. But, I also didn't think either Dansby or Burnett would be here in 2014, so it makes sense. We already had a young team, and we got younger. PFF called Ellerbe and Wheeler two of the better pass rushing LBs in the league. I think you are seeing some of the "get rid of the guys who don't fit the systems" moves. Neither Ellerbe nor Wheeler would have fit the Parcells' mold, both are too small for him.
These makes me wonder if more major moves are coming. Say that Misi is moving to DE, as some have suggested. What does that mean for Odrick? Is he moving inside to DT? If he is, what does that mean for Soliai? You could see more big changes there.
The CB market is flooded with guys. I am not worried about that at all. We'll be able to get bargains there.
We don't have a TE who can block. And Myers isn't the answer there. He graded out as the worst run blocking TE in the NFL, and the 53rd best pass blocker. Something has to happen here.

Jared Cook ranked 23rd in run blocking (Myers was 62nd), and tied with Myers at 53rd in pass blocking. But, the pass blocking grade for Cook is almost irrelevant because he should never be pass blocking. He should be pass receiving.
so all 3 starting LBs will be new or at new positons next year? Not sure how I feel about that given our LBs were not a problem next year. We have big holes on this team, LB was not one of them but we now made it a question mark. I am not a fan of the wheeler signing, we paid a ton of $$ to this guy who we chose not to sign as a street FA last year. That's the one signing that leaves me scratching my head

Our LB'er were not a problem but they didn't offer much big play ability.
Wheeler is making about the same as Burnett did...5 mil a year. I am trying to stay optimistic and see the big picture. I have my worries too but it seems they are getting rid of aging/high priced players who don't make big plays.
I have no problem cutting Dansby after he screwed us by showing up overweight. He was lazy after getting paid.
I liked Burnett but he is 30 and may start declining.
I don't get the wheeler signing. He's just nothing special. He did nothing before this season, and this season he seemed like just a guy. The raiders D wasn't all that good after all. And yet we paid him bit bucks with a lot of guaranteed $. Seems like a big risk.

Overall, PFF graded him as the 6th best 4-3 OLB in 2012. They also have a stat called "pass rushing productivity," which measures QB disruptions (sacks, hits, hurries) per time a player rushes the passer. Wheeler ranked #2 in the NFL among 4-3 OLBs.
