It seems thses are Miami's targeted players so far in FA.....

Brian Hartline
Mike Wallace
Jared Cook
Eric Winston

2nd tier options:
Charles Woodson FS
Brandon Gibson WR

What are the chances we can land all of these guys (1st group)? It sure would make for a different looking offense this year.

It would also leave our draft needs looking like this.....

Priority....

1: CB
2: FS
3: OG
4: TE
5: DE
6: DT
7: WR

It really opens us up to be able to take BPA and not having many positions of immediate need.

We could almost afford to trade up a few spots for Dee Milliner.

Jonathon Cooper or Tyler Eifert would also fit in nicely with our new look offense.

30 hours til FA.

There are a lot of decent options at CB. A couple guys may get bigger contracts early, but that's a position that will yield a lot of bargains. Sign one of them, and draft two.

There are a lot of options at CB but many of those guys come with injury concerns, age issues or ability/consistency issues.

I would not mind getting a young elite player for 5 years on the cheap (4.5 mil a year) if possible.

I do think Coyle can do more with less as long as he gets scheme compatible guys this year.

If we added Wallace, Cook, and Long/Winston in free agency...I think we could look for Warmack or Cooper at #12 to play LG and then go CB early in round #2. Lots of good CB prospects on the board for us in that spot.

I wouldn't be offended if we did that but I would much rather draft a TE than a guard....even Patterson would be in play....maybe Desmond Trufant.

Moore didn't just sign his contract to be traded, he's not going anywhere. And I doubt if we sign Wallace to huge bux, that we will take a WR in the 1st (maybe in a trade down scenario), could be wrong but I doubt it.

I don't think there is any way we take patterson at #12 if we have signed Wallace

Had a radical idea last night and the more I roll it over in my head the more I like it. How about this:

Sign Wallace, WR
Sign Gibson, WR
Sign Cook, TE
Sign Fasano, TE

Trade Bess for a 3rd (or 4th & 6th, but he's worth a 3rd)

Draft Tavon Austin, WR @ #12.

We'd then have:

Two 2nd's, Three 3rds, two 4ths, (if the projections for comp picks are accurate), and a 5th.

That's 8 picks to find a starting OT, OG, CB, FS and a back up RB.

wallace is going to command an enormous salary. cook will also want 7-8m per year and is hardly worth that given his production. Gibson will want money like hartline. That is way too much money to be spending (assuming we even have that much).

Wallace will get 11-12. Probably closer to $8m as a cap hit the first year.

Cook gets $6.5. Probably 4 mill cap hit year 1.

Fasano gets 2-3M

Gibson will get less than Hartline. 5-6m. maybe 4 as a cap hit year 1.

We have 30 mill in cap space to work with.

Its not only doable, its EASILY doable.

But that doesnt mean we should pay crazy money to anyone.

If the Wallace bidding moves beyond the 11-12 range we supposedly have a deal on now...then pass and sign Jennings.

If cook wants 8m...then go after a diff TE or add it to the priority list in the Draft.

Have to have a plan of attack going into FA...and you have to be able to adapt it on the fly.

I like the idea of going heavy on WR/TE in FA and using the draft to get players who can contribute right away at OL and DB.

a WR/TE corps of:

Wallace/Jennings
Hartline
Gibson
Austin
Matthews

Cook/Bennet
Fasano
Egnew

You draft and OT in round 2 like Terron Armstead or Barrett Jones to go with a CB like Jamar Taylor or Jordan Poyer.

You grab a guard like Brian Schwenke in round 3 and BPA at pass rusher, CB, FS, RB with the other 2 picks in that round and the picks in the 4th and 5th.

Frankly, I'd sign for that blueprint right now.

I don't want to sign Cook even at 6mm. He's just not worth it.
We may have $$ under the cap this year, but what happens next year if we make all of these signings?

I don't care for Gibson for even 4 mil. He is a 4.6 guy and has never been that productive.

I would rather just draft Patterson in the 1st or go for Tyler Ertz and Quinton Patton, Robert Woods, Terrance Williams or DeAndre Hopkins in the 2nd or Stedman Bailey, Ryan Swope, or Markus Wheaton in the 3rd.

Rumors are Cook will only get 6 mil a year.

Hartline, Jared Cook, Eric Winston and Mike Wallace would be a good haul for FA....(even if I am greedy)

That's around 10 mil in cap hits plus only about 2.3 mil for Hartline. We would still have room for other players like CB.

Hartline and Wallace are enough FA WR's. We need to draft youth there.

I like Patterson more than Austin. having Hartline and Wallace would give him some time to grow. I like the idea of trading Bess though....and Jerry and Odrick.

Next year...

$8.5 mill off the books for Starks. $8 mill for Soliai. $5mill for Incognito.

That's 21+ mill in cap space from 3 guys.

On top of that you have:

Burnett, Dansby, Marshall and a few others in the 5-8 mill range that will get cut or restructured.

You are right on. Incognito is actually $5.5M. And Bess is $3.5M. With Starks and Soliai, that's $25.5M off the books. Dansby is scheduled to count $11.5M against the cap in 2014. He will never see that money. We could cut him to save $9M in cap space. That $34.5M off the books. And cutting either Dmitri Patterson or Richard Marshall would get us close to $40M.

so are you all saying even if we go on a spree this offseason next offseason we will have as much cap space as we do now?

Well, some guys will be getting extensions and eating up some of that space, like Reshad Jones. And ultimately, they could get a longer term deal done with Starks that would keep him around at a lower number.

But, yeah, there's even more. In 2014, Carpenter is off the books. That's another $3M. Matt Moore could be cut or traded in 2014 to save another $4M. Kevin Burnett could free up almost $6M (but we need to find some young, replacment LBs, first).

As of today, the Dolphins have just $30M in committed contracts for 2015. Of course, they only have 10 players with contracts that run that long.

People won't give Ireland credit, because they never do, but this team is in really good cap shape. And that is not just looking at this offseason.

"Everybody wants a bargain," Ireland said, "and in free agency…there's not a ton of bargains out there, especially if you're playing at the top of the market."
