Wow, must be a weak class.. He says Sean Smith will get somewhere around 7+million a year and is best FA CB available..

PFF ranks him as the 7th best CB available in free agency.'

We should go after Brent Grimes or Greg Toler. Toler is a sleeper that could come much chaeper than Smith

Chris Houston is the guy I'd most like. And I wouldn't rule out Pacman Jones, who might be the best corner on the market. He has a relationship with Kevin Coyle.

Houston, Adam Jones, Terrence Newman YES

I heard Toler has had injury problems. We all know Grimes does plus he will want big money.

I pray that the dolphins don't use PFF for any player analysis whatsoever.

Grimes had an achilles tear, Adrian Peterson tore his ACL, does he have "Injury problems"?

Terrence newman? He is terrible! No more Cowboy cast offs!

Terrence Newman is terrible based on what facts exactly?

He was not very good in Dallas at times but resurrected his career in 2007 Cincy under Wade Phillips and again with Kevin Coyle in a zone coverage defense. Sometimes players just don't fit in the scheme....see Sean Smith.

He also battled injuries at times in Dallas.

Sometimes players need good coaching. Newman made the pro bowl in Wade Phillips first year as DC in Dallas and again in 2009.

He has 34 career interceptions, 132 passes defensed and 3 TD's.

PFF has him rated as the 2nd or 3rd best CB in FA.

If by "terrible" you mean "pretty damn good" then you are correct.

Of course they don't. No team would. But, do you think any team uses Adam Schefter's opinion?

No but they do use scouting services like when Scouts Inc. met with Ross. I'm sure it's a similar system of ranking FA's and college players.

I doubt they listen to Schefter, when you think about it player scouting is like the second most important thing next to the results on the field. I hope they got some good guys giving accurate grades and guys that can evaluate ceilings and also scouting that knows when a player passes his peak. This is what the successful teams manage to do year after year.

People like kicking Smith around but the right team is going to get this guy and we are going to see what could have been. The Bottlenose had a good article on Smith last week. You can only cover your receiver for so long before containment breaks. I think a solid pass rusher across from Wake would help raise Smith play. Its all mute because I think the guy is gone. He is not worth 10 mil but I think he will find that out and his price will come down.
But I think the Phins have gone beyond him after the inital talks.

I am comforted though we paid a receiver w/ 1td to his name and not one 100 yard game (well 1, Indy) once D- coordinators noticed him and started scheming for him.

Bottlenose had a good article on that to. Paying Benz money for a Camry.

Maybe. But no matter how you use him, he still has hands like feet.

That number 1 FA CB was just passed over for Dunta Robinson in KC. Could be his asking price was just too high.

Actually Hartline had three 100 yard games last year.

Like I said many times....sometimes WR's take 3-4 years to turn the corner. Hartline did that. I see no reason to believe he can't still perform at a high level. Especially when he is seeing single coverage all day long. If he can do it as the primary focus against double coverage, he can surely do it against single.

He was the 4th best receiver available in FA and we paid him right in line with what other (less productive) FA's and #2 WR's are making. He had larger offers to go elsewhere and chose to stay in Miami.

"Benz" money is Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitgerald. I don't see how you could say we are paying him that "benz" money.

When the contract details come out I think you will see that we are going to be paying him something like this....

2013: 2.5 mil base salary, 1.6m pro rated bonus = 4.1 cap hit
2014: 2.75 mil base salary, 1.6m pro rated bonus = 4.35 cap hit
2015: 3 mil base salary, 1.6m pro rated bonus = 4.6 cap hit
2016: 6 mil base salary, 1.6m pro rated bonus = 7.6 cap hit
2017: 9.9 mil base salary, 1.6m pro rated bonus = 11.5 cap hit

This will allow us to get him for good money for the first 3 years and renegotiate or release him in 2016 with no dead money since he got a 12 mil guaranteed and most likely a 8 mil bonus. It's basically a 3 year/13 mil deal or 4.33 mil a year deal.

Definite weak class of CBs if sean smith is at the top of the list.

Smith rated 18th among available free agent corners in PFF grades for 2012.

I was wondering how that could be true with Revis on the market.

Revis isn't a FA though. Deangelo Hall was released too.
