Too bad he is the Tuna's son-in law, might be a good addition.

really? he was straight up horrible in KC. like many who left NE and sucked thereafter (Romeo C, C Weiss, J McDaniels, etc)

Ireland isn't going anywhere, unfortunately. But if he was, I'd reather get a young up and comer who built succesful teams recently (i.e., someone from SF, GB, etc)

I'm kind of surprised that he did so poorly in KC. He was touted as one of the top reasons for the Patsies' success while he was there.

Yeah. But being a GM is different than heading the scouting department.

You aren't just evaluating talent you have to assemble the roster as well. Money factors in, who's available in FA.

Its one thing to look at a prospect and say "he's the 2nd best LT in the draft."

Its another thing to have to decide whether to draft him in the 1st round or to wait til the 2nd...or to select a WR or DT instead.

Pioli is a good personnel guy. Not sure he's cut out to be a GM but he's an asset to any organization. Someone will add him to their scouting department and I'm pretty sure he'll get another shot at GM someday.

Pioli makes Ireland look like Ron Woulf. He has been absolutely terrible in KC.

Bad move after bad move.

Traded a 2nd round pick for Matt Cassel and then signed him to a 62 mil deal. 10 mil a season.

1st round draft picks....(very high picks)

Tyson Jackson: 3rd overall pick. Not as good as Kendall Langford (4th rd)

Eric Berry: 5th overall pick. The "can't miss" safety. Not as good as Rashad Jones (5th rd)

Jon Baldwin: 26th overall pick. Not as good as Hartline (4th rd). traded down

Dontari Poe: 11th overall pick. First year player. Jury out.

Look at the rest of Pioli's picks. They are pathetic. 2 or 3 decent players. Justin Houston, Jon Asomoah....That's about it outside of the first round picks.

They finished 10-6 and made the playoffs in 2010 in a very weak division and a very weak schedule.... a season where he let Wade Smith go to Houston and make the PB. They also traded Tony Gonzales for a 2nd rounder who turned out to be nothing.

IT has been a huge coaching carousel.

HC Todd Haley, Romeo Crennel

OC: Chan Gailey, Charlie Weiss, Bill Muir, Brian Daboll

DC: Clancy Pendergrass, Romeo Crennel, Gary Gibbs

his first pick tyson jackson at #3 overall was just a collasal reach. No one really gave him crap at the time since at the time he had just come from NE and was considered a "genius." When he made that pick I couldn't belive it. It was all pretty much downhill from there.
But in fairness to the Eric Berry pick, at the time he was viewed as a once-in-a-generation safety, and he played like that before he got injured and missed a full year. I don't think we can consider him a bust just yet, I think he hurt his achilles and that can take a long time to recover from (if ever).

True and they also have him at SS. The word on the draft was he could play FS.

RESPONSE: THIS IS SO FUNNY!

THAT'S JUST THE HISTORY IRELAND HAD!!!!

His whole history was in scouting and we hired him after he was head of scouting for the Dallas Cowboys.

Yet THE Truth defends Ireland at every turn.

And the bitter irony is that, if I read him right, he is NOW recommending that we DON'T replace him, or if we DO replace him we don't do it, with someone who has ONLY A SCOUTING BACKGROUND.

LOL. LOL. LOL.

That's because the jury is still out on Ireland. I'm sure Pioli has learned valuable lessons in his failures just as ireland has..hopefully.

Ireland has all the tools to make a huge splash this off season. Cap space and lots of draft choices. If we don't walk away with at least two franchise players in the draft and a 1200 yard/10 td WR in FA then Ireland has to go. I don't thing TheTruth would argue that.

Ireland has been with this organization for 5 years now. If the jury is out, it is because its head is stuck in the sand (or other places).

I agree with The Truth on the Ireland matter, but in addition I feel his upcoming season, and off-season in particular is the one which will make him or break him.

On the matter of Pioli, he did a horrible job at KC, basically converted them into the Cleveland Browns. I feel sorry for the next team that adds Pioli to their management team. Pioli's skill set in talent evaluation seems to have declined incredibly since his days with New England. In fact they had already began to decline while he was there. It is very interesting how player evaluation has changed over the years in the NFL. The best player selector guys in today's NFL are the ones that can adapt to the constantly changing rule set, and make note of how the players of today are bigger, better conditioned, stronger and faster then they have ever been.

So if we went 9-7/10-6, Tannehill shows vast improvement, Martin/Miller/Vernon all contribute heavily, and the rookie class looks to have a game changer mixed in with another 2 or 3 solid players......but we miss the playoffs, you would fire Ireland?

Let's say the first 5 picks all become starters. The Dolphins will have what 9-10 starters as 1st or 2nd year players? Of course, I want to see them win the division. I think it's alot to expect that the Dolphins will be doing anything but vying for a wildcard spot next year.

I don't see how we aren't a 9-10 win team if all that happens. Our defense will get better if its on the field less. If Tannehill develops and the other guys establish themselves as stars then barring any injuries, how is next years team not 2-3 wins better than this year?

Sure we can play "what if" all day long, and we often do, but we are going to know by the end of next year if Ireland has built a team that can win a division and make a deep playoff run in2014.

We have so many players on our roster who are FA. Lots of players that we have high hopes for flatten in their second year rather then progress..We all had high hopes for Clay and Thomas that surely didn't move forward.. Then we have the hopes that holes are filled on offense to help RT. How will our tackles do next year if Long is let go. Will we miss Fasano's blocking if he walks. Will we miss Bush if he walks... Then we have to hope our defense doesn't regress.. With Starks, Sean Smith and Clemons all possible departures we have to question how will a bad secondary get better.. Our secondary is pretty much Reshad Jones next year that leaves at least 2 questions at CB and 1 safety question.. All that being said, none of us have any idea what the team is going to look like next year and how good we might be, it is 90 percent based on what Ireland does this offseason.. Our team most likely will be very different then it was last year.. All we can hope for is that the personnel moves and draft strengthen the team... to say say we were 7-9 last year so we should only get better, isn't as cut and dry as one might think it to be IMO..

Now exactly what did the race of those girls have to do with the story or understanding that story?

Yep Crowder. Lots of questions...once again.

I don't think we miss Bush and Smith much. Bush was great on a few plays and has ridiculous cutting ability. Miller and Thomas are one cut runners who may fit the zone scheme better. They hit the hole much quicker and don't dance.

I think Bush was better with our mediocre line but Miller will be better when we get the right zone personnel on the line. I also think Miller would have gained more yardage than Bush if he had the same carries...just not the crazy one man show TD runs.

Fasano is getting older and we've probably seen the best of him. He isn't getting any better. He is replaceable....maybe with Javorskie Lane's half brother (Jermichael Finley). Rumors are he may be released.

I think we should resign Starks, Hartline and Clemons. Clemons wasn't bad and will be good just for consistency sakes. He may get better after playing in the system for the second year.

Long has to go. Especially if he wants elite LT money.
