Explain the call
Posted by: Anonymous User ()

I'm a bit confused about the call made when Rasheed Jones had the pick on Brady, but the touchdown did not count. Didn't the ref say that after the play, there were personal fouls against each team? Wouldn't that be offsetting penalties? And if they occured after the play, why would it affect the play?

I don't get it either. seems like only the penalty against miami was enforced. I get that the TD would not be the result if MIA committed a foul on the play, but I don't see how NE was hurt at all by their foul?

These refs sucked today. They also never called a clear facemask on Tannihill.

Here is the explanation:

Brady threw a pick 6. And the NFL can't possibly have Tom Brady throw a pick 6.

About the only creditable thing you have said today.

That was my first thought when I first heard it TX Fin.

If the fouls occur AFTER THE TOUCHDOWN then you penalize, if at all, on the kickoff.

If there are off setting fouls, then there is no change in the kickoff.

Positions.

I can see if there are two fouls, holding and pass interference on the same play in the field of play, you replay the down.

But a touchdown is different.

What if a touchdown pass is caught and the receiver spikes the ball at the foot of the cornerback AND the cornerback punches him in the mouth?

Why is the touchdown invalidated?

This may be Houston-Seattle all over again.

Was there any question in the post game interview.

both fouls occurred before the TD so it would not have anything to do with enforcement on the kickoff, which is what happens when the fouls occur after the TD and the play is over. I doubt the refs called the play wrong, since if they had we'd have heard something about it, but I don't understand the rule

I remember everyone complaining about the substitute refs and scrutinizing everything they did with a microscope, but since these clowns have come back, I've seen way more missed calls, but nobody seems to be held accountable.

There are lots of Politics involved for sure. Its B.S. for sure. Most of the Pass Interference calls were BS as well.

It's not that hard.
The ref said (or meant)"after the interception"...
The off-setting fouls happened during the return, thus the dolphins were awarded the ball where the change of poss occurred.

I was unaware that you can't throw a low block during a int return.

Fully agree with the ref calls, esp the one with pass interference that set up a TD for the pats, we didn't even a hand on him, but there where calls that where not made to the pat players that had there hands all over our recievers. It seemed rigged to be honest.

brighter note: Tanny looks young and able while Brady looks old...so a few more years and we should be in good shape.

Holding, and to a degree Pass Interference have joined some of the 'roughing' type calls in becoming VERY subjective and It's hard to watch certain teams and not think the refs/NFL use them to reinforce the 'greatness' of some teams/players. I mean HOW do you miss that face mask penalty on Tannehill yesterday?!?!? It was a 15 yarder for sure that kept the drive alive.

That makes more sense than what the ref actually said. He said the ball will be placed where the return teams low block occurred but didn't give the players number.

I watched it several times and the only low block I saw was by Vernon at the 24 yd line but we took possession on the 34 yard line.

I said Ray Lucas played with effort. That is hard to argue. I also said Ray Lucas was a losing QB. That is also hard to argue. I also said that you can say that Tannehill is similar in that he plays with effort and is a losing QB. That is also hard to argue.

But can you argue this: At this point, I don't think Tannehill is any better than Ray Lucas.

Again, DK has managed to turn a thread about a penalty call into a forum for him to attack Tannehill.

Certain teams get the calls.

2 calls or non calls against Tannehill were BS. 1) the facemask 2) the other was when he ran with the ball and the guy speared him helmet to helmet.... that is illegal if QB or not.

Yeah definite facemask on tannehill. Had it been brady, it would had been a 25 grand fine on the defensive player.

Another horrible call was the PI on Dansby covering Vereen.

1) It wasn't PI. Dierdorf said Dansby arm barred Vereen; however, that was clearly not the case.
2) The pass was not catchable. 20 yards over thrown and out of bounds.

In between Deerdorf calling Brady 'Tom', the updates on Gizzelles pregancy, the never ending Pats homer analysis, I just wanted to cock punch Deerdorf through the TV.

Also the spot on 3rd down for the Pats after their first set of plays following the botched punt........the guy was a yard short of the yellow line, yet the spot, without a measurement was declared a first down

That's right chambers. But that was on Philbin for not challenging it at the time.

You're talking like a beaten down fan. The correct call should have been made by the refs in the first place without Philbin having to challenge. The refs always give the patsies calls. PI, roughing the passer, head to head...........all give the refs subjective measures in which to call the game.

Conspiracy theory: the replacement refs did not do this, thats why the sports media made fun of them because the regular refs have the story line for the season down.

Not a beaten down fan. Just not enamored with the coaching staff. Yeah, the ref should've gotten the call right but at the end of the day they didn't and that's what challenges are there for.

That was third down and by not challenging, he cost us 4 points. Not to mention the confidence boost to the defense.
