I didn't expect THIS. 7 receptions for 87 yards...and lead the Jets in receiving. Kind of wish he was doing that for us or another team NOT in the AFC East.

Almost all of that came in garbage time so don't get too worked up. He is getting better though.

Wow. He was on our roster this August. But 1423, I thought I saw him make some catches in the first half. Maybe the memory of a senile old man.

Their receiving corps has to be the worst in the league so the best of the worst won't create much fear.

Btw, did you see him showboat after the insignificant first down when the game was all but over? I don't like to see a lot of that stuff but to do it after your team has been dismantled makes one look really stupid! Even worse when the commentators call you on it. Haha.

Just goes to show he doesn't care about his team, only his own stats.
Good riddance.

gates is like teddy ginn. falls down even before contact when he holds onto the ball at all. I am not losing any sleep over him being on the jets.

Probably more passes than he will catch the rest of the year.

I have total confidence in this staffs ability to evaluate talent and make a determination if a dude is has the potential to be a solid football player week in and week out.

Gates did a few things but this was also a "big deal" for him - trying to prove his old team wrong. He had that "edge" for 1 week but now he'll have to show up and be a real football player and grind it out. I saw no evidence the kid has the type of determination, core toughness and essential football intelligence to be a consistent player. But best of luck to him anyway. I'm sure Baby T had some kisses for him after the game.

Well, we let Gates go so we could keep Naanee. Head scratcher. I would rather have kept Gates.

I wish we had gave gates another year to develop. Just don't cut a 4th rounder like that. So he is w/ the sucky, classless jets. Whoever signs your paycheck I suppose. He's a young guy didn't mind the showboating, he made a play against his old teammates who probably just pointed to the scoreboard or ignored him.

The thing to keep in mind about gates is he was drafted as a project and with a skill set suited to play in the offense he's playing in right now.

He was far to undeveloped as a college player to succeed in the west coast offense. Especially after having no mini camp due to the lock out and having played in a different system as a rookie last year.

I wish we'd kept him. He's only going to get better.

I think he's going to be a pain in our rear-end for years.

I think Gates was let go because he was having trouble learning his responsibilities in the west coast offense and we had younger guys like Moore and Wallace that we liked better.

That said, I think he's going to be a good player for the Jets or whomever takes the time to develop him.

He may have gotten open 7 times but I saw nothing special. You're talking about one of the fastest players in the NFL and he never really broke anything open. Even as a returner.

He doesn't even have as good a ypc as Hartline. Actually about 2 yards less. He had 2 receptions before yesterday.

There is always that chance he'll break out (slim) but luckily we have the upper hand until 2013. Hopefully by next year we have another stud CB to shut him down.

Also lets not forget he was being covered by Nolan Carroll most of the time.

Lets also not forget that he's a work in progress and in his 3rd offense in 2 years. smiling smiley

Oh, and he did have that 47 yard kickoff return to start the 2nd half that set up a Jets TD. He probably would have gone the distance if he hadnt been tackled by his own guy.

Gotta agree with the Truth. Ugh. Question is whether he's a ball dropper, though.

I dont remember who wrote that he reminded them of tedd ginn. And i almost saw ted ginn when i was watching gates. He can be tackled easily and looks fragile. He didnt drop any passes sunday though.

First of all. Not sure the J E T S know what O they're running. Perhaps the West Haven mushroom & pepperoni double cheese whizzer? Or the broken chicken wing smothered in greasy hot sauce? Beyond that,

Gates ain't Wesley Walker so don't lose any sleep about him pestering us in the future. Believe me, we'll be glad he's on their team more often than not - for however long that lasts (probably until Rex is fired and replaced by a true off axis football guru like Norm Turner). Ha!

gates was let go because he couldn't pick up the west coast offense. he fits in just fine with sparano's one side of the field philosophy.

gaffney and moore are much better than gates. so nanee didn't work out. it happens.

it was funny watching sparano try to call plays. as clueless as ever. what's even funnier is he'll be named the interim hc when fat rex gets canned.

Gates lack of ability on special teams hurt him in Miami, too. Naanee and Moore are both much better special teams guys. And that's important in backup WRs.
