Both Sparano and Philbin were/are rookie HCs with the Phins. It's not that different from rookie players. They all make mistakes and need to learn from them. Some do...some don't. Let's hope Philbin does.

I'm willing to cut a rookie player some slack, Vic. Even a QB. I'm not willing to cut any slack to a coach, GM, Off. Coord, Def. coord, or owner.

I have to admit I thought Tony was still on our sidelines during some plays.

The QB play wasn't that good.

The coaching was OK. It was better the first two games, but this time just OK.

Certainly, losing our best offensive player had its consequence.

Yeah, the coaches made some mistakes but did it cost the Fins the game? Not in my opinion. Sure, they should have stuck to the running game as that was working well, but they didn't. It's up to the guys on the field to block, tackle, throw, catch, run and defense plays. Lots of breakdowns there.

Also, Carpenter missing two field goals. THAT was the real key! Make that first one (that was missed) and the game doesn't go down to overtime.

The field looked wet. Maybe TreasureCoast can tell us if it was raining at the game but the field looked wet on TV. Some of our guys were losing their footing. 45 plus yard field goals are not automatic in adverse conditions. Better field position should have been secured before taking shots into the endzone, especially since he had already missed one from a similar distance.

Maybe I saw it differently. Timing is everything. What I saw was the timeout going in just before the ball was snapped and the kicker pulled up ever so slightly as he kicked it. I only saw it as it happened. I didn't catch the tv replay. If this is what happened, too much blame is being placed on the Philbin call. I'm not all together sure on this. Where can I catch that replay??? Anywhere? I'd like to see it in "real" time and slow mo.

You will never win when you spot the other team 12 points. 15 if you count the blocked FG.

I'm sure there were games when we had Dan that we gave up that many points and still won.

A combined effort (or lack of) lost this game. But to put it in perspective, Philbin might turn out to be the idiot some said he would.

Not sure he's 'an idiot' but he IS a first time NFL head coach. After Wanny, that's ALL we have hired. Why? IDK, but I still think Ross is just CHEAP. NONE of them have had an over .500 winning pct, except Bowels as interim who coached 3 games. Interestingly of the guys who have coached more than a couple of years DAVE STINKIN' WANNSTEDT has the highest winning pct. Go figure.

The above post by KB was posted 4:44 Eastern time. No post on the board since this. That's three whole hours in the middle of the day. I've got nothing to say. Just posting to see if the board is really working.

Not when we miss a FG in OT!

It was drizziling almost the entire game except for maybe the 3rd quarter. It was wet allright. Still no excuse.

All the more reason to try to get as close as possible for the kick.

I agree that the coach made a mistake. I'm willing to give him a break.

All of the experts had us last in the NFL, and I think we're looking competitive. I blame the coach for that positive influence as well.

If you're only interested in short term then I can see why you're disappointed. I think I'll give him the full season to grade his performance.

Woulf,

You're correct we were the laughing stock and the butt of jokes. We're competitive with equally matched teams.....weak teams. Inconsistent play and poor coaching limits this team the most. The big dogs in tbe NFL will bite us in the ass. I can't wait for the days when Miami is able to trade blows with the tough teams in the league.

The big dogs are Pittsburg 1-2
Green Bay 1-2
N.E. 1-2
N.O. 0-3
How are we any more the BUTT of jokes than the powerhouse teams.
This season has just barely started. Let's hold off on the draft posts for a bit.

Definitely not making it a "suck for xxxxxxx" post. Not my intention at all. I am merely stating that those powerhouse teams (and several other teams) just emberrass Miami and expose their weak side(s). You have to admit they have MANY weak points that require work before they are considered a challenge to many teams in the NFL

The coaching is fine. The quarterback is another story.

No worries from me.

This team is performing essentially the way I've been predicting from day one. Some fans are having a hard time getting that their team is mediocre and may be perennially mediocre for years to come if we continue with the front office we have.

Hard to accept, and some people would rather just insult anyone who has a rational opinion then come to terms with the shattering of their own expectations.
