I voted Jennings & Hartline and wouldn't mind if we added Keller to that. I think that Hartline can probably be had for less than 6, and I don't like Wallace 2x what I like Hartline if we add Jennings and Keller and probably a WR in rounds 1 or 2.

Nothing is going to help if we don't address the QB position.

We need to trade for Alex Smith.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe I am; so, I recommend we stick with Tannehill at QB and sign Jennings and re-sign Hartline for a Jennings/Hartline duo with Bess in the slot. We should also attempt to get a high draft pick WR to add to the mix. A playmaker to complement Fasano at TE is also needed, IMO.

Jennings is going to be a Dolphin, I can feel it. I would not mind Wallace but in reality none of these guys are the kind of WR that would be feared around the league.

The top tier guys in the NFL right now for me are:
Megatron- Lions
AJ Green- Bengals
Julio Jones- Falcons
Demaryius Thomas- Broncos
Andre Johnson- Texans

Everyone else is good..but just not as good as those five, not yet.

Alex Smith is far more accomplished and proven.

Tannehill showed he couldn't make the throws. Some cry that his WRs are the problem, but he missed many open WRs in many game critical situations.

I would take Smith over Tannehill any day.

A hardy laugh is always welcome. However, realistically the Dolphins will stick with Tannehill and add playmakers to the team.

I suspect the Jets will get Smith to improve their lousy QB situation because Sanchez is not going to ever excel under Ryan. Tim Tebow will wind up somewhere else--1 more try at the NFL, I predict.

That certainly is a great idea...to give up much needed draft picks for a QB who couldn't hold Tannehill's jock in his rookie year.

It is true Alex Smith has turned into an above average QB IN HIS 6TH YEAR. He turned into an average QB in his 4TH YEAR.

Smith had 25 starts in college and had 1 TD and 11 int's his rookie year (40.8 QB rating). Tannehill was at 76.1....almost twice as good!

After year 3 Smith had an average QB rating of 57.6.

Thanks DFK. You just proved how lucky we are to have a QB of Tannhill's ability.

If Tannheill as a rookie, is that much better than Smith (with 5 fewer college starts), then he is destined to be twice the QB as Smith.

That's great news! Tannehill is already ahead of the curve!

Jets are 30 million over the cap...they aren't trading for Smith and then paying him $10 mill. They'd have $30 mill tied up in two QB's.

They will draft a guy and they will sign a cheap veteran.

Matt Moore is a possibility but if he is going to take veteran minimum then why not stay here?

This year is going to be about getting their cap in order.

I vote for Bowe and Hartline(not at 6 mil). Bowe brings more game breaking talent than Jennings. I also like the thought of bringing in Keller at TE.

Patterson is starting to like like a viable option at 12. i am leaning toward either he or Sharrif Floyd if available and we don't resign Starks.

Bowe is in negotiations to resign with KC.

I hope we invest in the draft and sign the best cost effective WR in FA.... But at the end of the day our greatest need is WR, so I would hope we land the best passing threat in the draft... Patterson looks good, but he is relatively inexperienced with only 1 year of division 1 ball, so he has a huge upside but also a huge unknown yet to develop... Keenan Allen looks pretty good to me as well but not sure he is a true outside WR like we need the most... I am sure most would agree another pass catching TE is just as important... Between a pass catching TE and a outside WR, is what I want to see.... DOubling down early in the draft on WR is not a bad idea either...
I know i got off topic, but the problem with the FA WRs, you are going to have to committ big money and or get a player who is a 3 year stop gap, not the future... RT if he is to thrive needs a young stud WR... THe cheapest stop gap FA is probably the best choice IMO....

That's probably the way to go Crowder.

Sign Jennings and Hartline. Draft two guys with our 4 picks in rounds 2 & 3.

Go into camp with Jennings (3years), Hartline 4/5 years, Bess, Matthews, Binns and two rookies.

7 guys for five or six spots.

Someone likely ends up on IR.

Someone gets cut or traded if we go with 5.

I like that approach, as well assuming
- Jennings is 100% healthy
- both Jennings and Hartline don't break the bank - I'm reading maybe 3-5 million for Hartline, 6-8 for Jennings

because:
- Jennings can help the entire WR corps transition to WCO because of his experience
- it likely gives us the opportunity to also sign a seam-stretching TE with money that might have otherwise been spent on Wallace
- lots of youth there - I don't know about Binns, but I like Matthews from the limited amt of play he got toward the end of the year

Supposedly Mike Wallace is our top target. He will be 27 years old on August 1st. I don't know if I would call him a stop gap since he could very likely play out a 4 or 5 year contract. He could be a nice transition while a rookie receiver grows into a lead role.

We signed Brandon Marshall to a 5 yr/50 mil deal with 24m guaranteed and that was 4 seasons ago. He was a year younger than Wallace at the time. It was a deal that favored the Dolphins in that it could have been voided after a year in case he did not work out.

Everyone will squirm when they think of a 12 mil a year deal but he is a rare talent that will draw a CB and safety on every play. He provides opportunity for big plays/long td's as well as helping out in the running game and other receivers on mid to short routes.

Marshall averages 6.4 TD's a year while Wallace averages 8 td's per year.

I'm not sure we resign Hartline if Wallace accepts a deal in Miami.

Would it be better to have Hartline and pay him 5 mil a year or to pay Jennings 8 mil? If Hartline refuses 4.5 to 5 mil deal then I make a run at Jennings.

Just think of what this lineup could do....

WR1 Mike Wallace
WR2 Greg Jennings
WR3 Cordarelle Patterson
WR4 Davone Bess
WR5 Rashard Mathews
WR6 Jeff Fuller

I think Patterson would be a great slot guy while he transitions into a lead role in a few years. He has ridiculous yac ability. That may be dreaming too big so....

WR1 Mike Wallace
WR2 Greg Jennings
WR3 Stedman Bailey
WR4 Davone Bess
WR5 Rashard Mathews
WR6 Jeff Fuller

Add a good TE to the mix and we are an instant contender this year.

You have to start somewhere. We did finally draft a QB in the first round. We are one of the youngest teams in the NFL so it seems to me we ARE building through the draft.

The only FA's that have starting spots are....

Wake, Dansby, Burnett & Incognito. CB is up for grabs but it's hard to complain about these 4 guys as FA's.

Starks, Fasano and Bush were the other FA starters. I don't see how anyone can complain about these guys either. We have 4 players drafted in Miami that are FA's and may not return....(Hartline, Smith, Clemons & Long).

We have 8 RFA's, of which 3 may be tendered.

It's just math. We have 10 draft picks and 20 spots to fill. We have no choice, other than to sign FA's. Might as well get some good ones.

I'm not sure where the complaint is based.

Goodwin is listed at 5'9 177 lbs and never had much more than a 400/3 season. I still have hopes for Fuller. He was once considered a candiadate for the first round.
