Shouldn't be much different than the Bucs 2nd team defense. The Panthers were ranked 29th last year and haven't added much other than Ron Edwards at DT and Luke Kuechly at WLB.
It will be interesting to see if he has the same chemistry with Naanee and Bess as he does with Pruitt and Wallace. Although one of those two may get substantial playing time with the first unit. (Wallace or Pruitt)
It's a VERY FLUID dynamic @WR and chances are a few surprises are in store.
This staff is looking for:
1) Consistency (getting open and catching the ball)
2) Versatility (know every position and execute at a high level)
3) Explosiveness (the ability to make big plays and YAC)
3) Dependability (practice like a Pro, play like a Pro, and stay healthy)
IMO the only dude on the roster that hits all the marks right now is Bess. Maybe you could say Naanee fits in as well, but he’s still got things to prove.
The rest of the pack has questions all over the place, so it’s reasonable to conclude the staff is “concerned” about the lack of consistency at the position in general. The absence of Hartline has really hurt this unit – if indeed Hartline is ready to step up and be a consistent playmaker?
I wondering what kind of “calf” injury the dude is dealing with? Did he have surgery? Not sure, but it seems the football gods are telling the staff Hartline cannot be counted on. He’s got to get back to practice ASAP and prove something soon…
Philbin from the first day of training camp said he hoped to give each of the QB's a start in a preseason game... I wouldnt read to much into it. As eest said, Carolina has the worse defense that we will face in the preseason with 2 injured lb's, so it shouldnt be to much risk... I think starting him this game is a good call...
Did anyone hear Richard Marshall this morning on radio discussing Tannehill.

Miami robbed by officials...Smith had a great interception at the 6yd line and the officials called P.I. when it was not there.
Third Series: Incomplete pass (low by RT), 1 Yd run by Bush, First down throw by RT to Bess (good throw), Pass defensed (RT threw the ball late), Run by Thomas, Complete pass to Wallace (1st down), Incomplete pass to Wallace, Incomplete pass (RT threw the ball wide), Complete pass to Fuller (Good throw by RT, 1st down), Complete pass to Thomas (good throw), Complete pass to Bess (no gain, not a great throw), Penalty by Incognito, Complete pass to Moore (good throw, 1st down), Run by Slaton, Complete pass to Fasano (Good throw, 3rd and goal), 1st down run by Lane, rushing TD Thomas, PAT good.

Doubt that. Against the first team defense he was horrible. He moved it a little bit against the second team D while Miami kept its first string offense in.
But agains NFL starting Defense, he doesn't look close to ready.

I agree the OL is terrible both the first and second units.
No running game and the OL stinks.
Also moore did not do a thing to separate himself from tannehill yesterday...And that was a huge chance for him.
EDIT: I think tannehill plays better the rest of pre season and secures the starting job come regular season.
EDIT: IMO The only way tannehill does not start the season as the staring qb is if he throws 3 ints in each of the next 2 games.
He didnt look good with all the batted passes yesterday but the OL was the one to blame since they got pushed back and manhandled...And when the second unit was in i dont even want to talk about that.....

Lol. Moore didn't do anything to separate himself... How about this was Tannehills shot at starting and he didn't impress or do anything to secure the job...
Chyren this offense is fast quick reads and passes, you don't need a lot of time to throw the ball in this system. The quick decisions are suppose to offset the opposing teams rush... Either way neither philbins team, philosophy, coaching or Tannehill were remotely impressive...
Not to mention Ireland decision to get rid of Nolan even though he was still under contract looks foolish at this point... Let's get rid of one of the best defensive minds for a guy that has never been a d coordinator in the league.smh
