Am I the only one who refuses to pay $100+ a year for their online content?

LOL! They want $100+ per year? For what? Omar Kelly? That is a joke of a newspaper.

No I wouldn't pay either.

$3.99 for the first 5 weeks. $9.99 every 5 weeks after that.

Go to the newswire and click on one of their stories.

Frankly, I think Curt should remove them from the news wire if they are going to charge for content. Or at least set up another category we can choose to ignore for paid content.

Welcome to the future. Newspapers are dinosaurs and are struggling to survive. ESPN has been charging for years (insiders). I just wonder how long it will be before all legit online sport reporting is asking for money.

the whole thing is just handled so poorly. I am fine in theory with charging some nominal fee to read the content (after all, newpapers have been charging for years to read the print versions), but you can't, after years of being free, and with everything else free, all of a sudden have a pop up window asking you to pay $100+ on a periodic basis to access the content. Then when you add that the SS is not even that good, certainly not the best source for dolphins stuff, and omark kelly is just an enormous douche---well it's just insulting. this is why newpapers are dying---they have no concept of how to compete in the internet age.

if they asked for a 1-time payment of like $10 which would cover the entire year, I'd probably do it. But no one is going to pay that on a monthly basis.

With the amount of free content, all across the web, what in the world does sun sentinel think they have in content that people are willing to pay for....that is laughable...
I do pay for unique and quality content, like South Florida Business journal... But anything that the Sun Sentinel chooses to cover, is just recycled stories that you can read in 50 different places, with a couple clicks of the mouse... I would entertain the idea of paying for twitter way before I ever considered paying for the Sun Sentinel... it is not even close which is a better source for news...

No.

I couldn't believe it when that crap started popping up while I was reading their columns.

Everything else on line is free -- who the hell do these guys think they are?

I just stopped going to their site.

within 3 months SS will go back to being free. I gotta believe they are taking a beating---losing online readers and probably getting very very few subscribers. How clueless do you have to be to come up with a business model like their subscription policy?

Sun Sentinel is broke, they are in trouble, and a mess... Paper subscriptions are minimal. The business model is broken for them, people dont pay big money to be in the newspaper anymore, and web ads arent worth a tenth of what the paper ads use to generate... So the quality has gone down over the last ten or fifteen years real bad at the Sentinel IMO. The charging is like a last ditch effort to try and make money.... not a good one......

So that was what was going on. At one point, I thought I had a redirect virus.

Speaking of which, is anyone else having issues using the back button while in the forum?

I keep hitting it and I am still here. I have to click the forum link and restart.

Yeah, Jonathan. Every time I hit the message list, I see a red mark behind a thread I just read. I then hit the "refresh" button and that red mark disappears. It's been happening for about almost a week.
