I'm sure Philbin won't be averse to making a change during the season. This is just for who's starting on day 1.

Actually, Cap. There is no consensus on this board that Tannehill will sit out a significant portion of next year. Actually, to be fair, the majority consensus seems to be that he should, if not will, start either at the beginning or at least early in the season.

I am thinking Gerrard gets the nod for game one. The battle has to be won in camp and Moore is not a great practice player... so how could he get the nod if he is outperformed in practice? Philbin has no allegiance to either player.

The only way is if he (Moore) blows up in a the first 2 PS games.

Had he spent the entire off season in the same offense as last year, maybe he could turn into something resembling a franchise player. Not so sure since he is starting from scratch.

I would have no problem with him coming off the bench though if needed.

I can't agree with anyone on here that thinks Tanny should start at all next year barring big injuries to both Moore and Garrard. Don't get our man hurt or shaken up his first year just let him watch, learn, and get stronger. Maybe week 16-17 if we are out of the playoffs, maybe. I kinda hope we end up with 4-6 wins and we can get Tanny another weapon or two in next year's draft. Turn him loose in 2013

What if he's the best QB this summer? Do you still sit him?

I wouldn't.

I think that almost every QB drafted into the NFL should sit for the better part of a season or even their entire first season.

It just takes time to learn the playbook AND learn how to read NFL defenses.

Tannehill is in a unique situation frankly, I can't think of another QB who walked into an NFL locker room on day one and knew the playbook. That gives him a chance to develop faster than the average 1st round QB.

Its going to be very interesting to watch how it plays out over the next 3 months. I won't be surprised to see him on the bench to start the season but I will be surprised if he doesn't get 4 or 5 starts at the end of the year the way Eli Manning did as a rookie.

The norm has chanfged over the last decade or so concerning rookie QB's.

It used to be the norm to sit them and let them learn, now the norm is the QB is expected to start, and start early...if not the 1st game.

The guys who cant make it through the tough times of a rookie season, never would have made it anyways.

Manning, Elway, Aikman, and plenty other good-great QB's struggled as rookies. But they all had the intestinal fortitude to pull through.

Another problem in sitting today's QBs is that if a team lets the guy sit for a couple of years (to learn the game) then quite often, by the time he is ready to start, he is already a free agent and moving on to another team.

It is also said over and over, that a QB taken in the top 10 should be ready to start sometime during his first season, otherwise he shouldn't have been drafted that high.

In Miami's case, who the heck is in front of Tanney? Sure in hell there is no Marino where Tanney should sit and learn.

However, I do agree Tanney should sit in the beginning of the season because the game is much faster in the NFL, along with his inexperience in college at the QB position. It is going to take him a little time to get used to the NFL way.

I would sit him in the beginning just so he doesn't get thrown to the wolves and loses any confidence that he may have.

What happens if we go into the season with Matt Moore starting and he plays good not great, but we're winning games. What do we do if we go 10-6 with Moore under center?

Do we stash the kid on the bench until the day Matt Moore starts playing poorly or gets injured if the whole time leading up to that Moore is playing well, winning games, taking us to the playoffs, being competitive in the playoffs, and so on?

Yes, we sit Tanny the whole season if Moore/Garrard is winning IMO. If Philbin did anything else he would lose the respect of the players.

Moore is in the last year of his contract.

You will have to decide if you want to pay him $10 mill a year to keep him...assuming that he leads us to 10-6 and has a terrific year.

I doubt we do that when the game plan is to develop Tannehill as a franchise QB. Of course, if they think Tannehill is a bust, or that Moore is a star in this system after having them both for a year, then its entirely possible they sign pay moore and write of Tannehill as a back up.

While not impossible, I seriously doubt it plays out that way.

I think we'll end up looking to trade Moore after Garrard or Tannehill wins the starting job in camp.

Yeah I would have to agree. I think thats rational and that those would all be the likely responses to those scenarios

Cleveland is also naming a starter before training camp begins. Most likely Weedon.

I don't buy the lack of leadership claim. You just can't assess that in a meeting. You do it on the field.

He is mentoring the vet Qb's in Miami bc he knows the offense. He physically shows WR's how to run routes. He may not be mature as it relates to games played but I've heard him speak and immaturity was not what came to mind. He doesn't exactly reminding me of Ryan Leaf or Vince Young.

I remember another QB similar to Weedon who was very successfull in college and was considered to be NFL ready....Chris Weinke.

Cleveland and Holmgren can suck it. He's never drafted a good QB anyway.

I don't buy the lack of leadership claim either.

But I do buy this: "Miami expects to sit Tannehill for most, if not all, of the 2012 season to get him up to speed."

We are tired of waiting for surprises. Been waiting since marino left close to 20 years.

I also hope sometimes that we stink for 3 years in a row so that we can draft high in the first round and get a couple of superstars.

We are desperate already.

PS. We are like a kid who in his birthday waits for a suprise toy present but when he opens the present he gets clothes instead. Iam tired of waiting for suprises from the phins.

Screw losing for draft picks. That is beyond ridiculous.

How about just making the picks you have count? There is no guarantee that having a high pick will equate to a PB player.

The teams that are successfull year after year make those late picks count.

We have our QB and won't be taking another for several years so we don't need a top 5 pick to get quality players.

We just need to start hitting on free agents as a supplement to the draft. Way too many wasted FA pickups over the last 10 years.

Easy to say....!

Until we get that superstar QB we need , it will be the same thing over and over again every year. It doesn't matter who else we draft at other positions or what free agents come and go.

You still have to make the high picks (you are hoping for) count as well or we are still screwed.

No doubt. all iam saying is even if all those other picks pan out it wont matter if we dont have that superstar QB to take us to the next level.

The JT and zach madison surtain days were wasted because we had no qb worth crap.

Great defense no offense at all.
