totally messed up. a few years ago he drove his car off a cliff but denied he was trying to kill himself. I wonder if this is another concussion related thing. Seems to be happening quite a bit.

Didnt concussion issues basicly force him out of the league? I am not sure about concussion syndrome causing people to commit suicide, but it probably doesnt help and might compound the problem when dealing with other issues... tough to say

I think Dave Duerson killed himself not long ago and he left a note saying it was something to do with concussions. i think there's been a link established but not sure

Yes, I read that as well.. But it is still tough call to make, a guy writing a suicide note is not always the best evidence, considering the depression he must of been in to commit an act like that... Not every player that suffered lots of concussion has killed themselves.. so i think there could be a link to it making the problem worse, but not sure you can say it is the cause... WOuldnt that be tough to prove legally, based on those facts...

Duerson actually shot himself in the chest to preserve his brain for study.

Report I saw earlier said seau also shot himself in he chest.

I think both Duerson and Seau shot themselves in the chest; I know Duerson wrote he did it so they could study his brain

obviously not everyone who has a concussion kills themselves, but there's the syndrome involving people with many many concussions (basically football players) who kind of lose their minds

"A" personalities that achieve alot, arent very good at asking for help, and succumbing their lack of control over their lives to others... Sometimes the traits that make you the best at something are also the traits that limit you in other areas of your life... We all need help at times, but we dont always know how to get it or ask for it.. Maybe the issues compound this, or maybe it was inherent..

True, but the demise of so many players from his 1994 Superbowl team makes me wonder if it was an issue on that team overall. Now, I haven't done the research into the other players who died...so this is just conjecture.

Ok, nevermind. I just looked at what caused the other players deaths. Yeah...a curse perhaps. Geez (plane crash, car crash, lightning, overdose, heart attack, suicide...sheesh)

Monte,
There is a link though i believe between the body producing less testosterone, as a result of long term supplementing. And the minimum levels in your body has been known to have depressive effects on the mind and body.. isnt that why androgel is a hot product.

My nephew's theory is anxiety separation from football.

It's like that John Lennon song "Watching the wheels go round" where he says people say "Don't you miss the big time, boy? You're no longer on the ball."

I don't know what the figures are of NFL suicides versus the general population.

He was Great. He literally sacraficed his mind and body for the game.Hope he has found peace. I still have my 55 Seau Jersey and will wear it to the Next Phins game.

43. Wow. Must have been dealing with some serious pain; physiological, psychological, or most likely both.

Defensive guys leading with their heads and taking all that contact… It would be better to go back to the old leather helmets and get rid of the weapons they wear now.

Good point, BNF. They brought in the plastic helmets around when I was playing Midget football. When I played Pee Wee, they were more cardboard type material.

They did it then for more protection but at the same time when you get hit with one, the blow is far more severe. Chicken or the egg situation.

That's why leading with your helmet is much more of a sin but also we should look at it from the standpoint of those defensive players who used their helmets as a weapon and the effect they had on their own brains.
