i Mean as having an impact and starting right away. IMO he will be better...

I don't think the problem would be him learning all the plays; he already knew 70% of them before he ever got to Miami, and from what I read, he took just 3 hours to learn the whole playbook.
What could wreck him would be the speed of the game and him not used to seeing the defenses that the NFL would throw at him. That, IMO, is what is going to take time, for him.
Plus, hopefully, the WRs come around to help him out and the line is able to give him time.
He needs time to adjust and get used to the level of competition.
If going from the college to the pros was easy it would be because ALL college players are drafted into the NFL. Obviously, that's not true. It's only the best of the best that make it to the NFL and they are quicker, more powerful, faster, etc. than the average college competition you have faced. And that's not only the man lining up in front of you but the whole friggin' other side of the line. That goes for every position.
A rookie has to get used to that and only time can provide that experience. If he is thrown in at the beginning, it is like throwing in a guppy into a pool of sharks.
A & O, I say that if he outplays them in the pre-season, you start the winner of the Moore vs. Garrard.
Let that guy play a whole game.
If that guy seems like he's under-performed in the first game is under performing at the beginning of the second game, then stick in Tannehill.
I think Marino was stuck in in the fourth quarter of the Third game of the season against the Raiders and started the fourth game.
But even if he outplays the Vets in pre-season, I think it would be a mistake to start him at the beginning of the season.
OUr first game is away in Houston against the Texans
We are then home against Oakland and the Jets and then away again against Arizona.
So the dynamics are different. I wish the schedule was that we were home against Houston and then away against Oakland and the Jets and then home against Arizona.
I would then start him away against Oakland or the Jets wherein booing would not affect his psyche and then have him seasoned when we came home against Arizona.
However, such is not to be.
As it is now, either he starts game one a total rookie which few recommend or he is given the job before the home crowd against Oakland or much worse, the Jets. I don't think that's ideal for him.
Of course, all this is on the ASSUMPTION that he outplays Moore and Garrard in pre-season so those who respond keep that in mind as a starting point.

Still the 30 percent could give him trouble...He needs time

Agreed. Exactly that would be another reason he should sit for a while and practice against our own player so he can get in sync with NFL speed. Much faster...>Give him two full Preseasons at least.

Our Guards stink, our center and right tackle are practically rookies and we have a bunch of 2nd and 3rd string WRs...We still need to concentrate next year on offense in the draft in order to improve the OL and wr position even more.
tannehill needs all the help he can get....He has the talent and is smart as hell...now all he needs is good players around him on offense in order for him to make an easier transition from college football to the NFL.
He could be damaged goods if they play him too soon and he struggles. His confidense will be shut. It has happened many other times.
Then There is manning and dan marino who became stars since the beginning but they had much better offensive talent around them.
PS....Just throw it as far as you can and duper or clayton will be open by 5 yards....that would be a dream come true for a QB. Became a dream come true for marino......
Marino had all the talent in the world and it helped much that he had such a talented offensive team when he came into the league.(((((EDIT AS FAR AS ...RECEIVERS AND OL)))..A great OL.

IF Tannehill wins the job straight up in camp and is still the better player in preseason you almost have to start him day one. He must be the clear winner however.
