Poll: How will RT be used the First year

Poll
37 votes were received.
All visitors can vote.
How do YOU think management intends to use RT this year?

What we're trying to do here is to predict, based on our football knowledge, just what the Dolphin management plans for Tannehill this season.

We all agree that he is in their long range plans but what DO YOU THINK they will do this season?

I don't need any arguments about what they SHOULD DO but I'm interested in how we posters are at figuring out our own management and what they have in mind or had in mind in drafting Tannehill.

So, what were they thinking.....in your opinion that is.

Need an option for " Will start on the bench, but If moore or Garrard start to stink, will start later in the year"

If anybody votes for the WR option, then they are absolutely dumb.

Ryan Tannehill will never, and I mean EVER line up as a WR in Miami. Never.

Moore is a very capable QB. They must not rush RT.

He will be expected to compete to become the starting QB for this team as soon as possible. Isn't that why he was drafted?

I think RT will be used as Brandon Marshall's replacement...spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

I am worried that if we dont do well, there will be tremendous pressure to play him earlier then they should... THe fact he knows the offense should give him a tremendous leg up on Moore and Garard... Just not so sure he is ready to read complicated defenses schemes, identify blitz's etc... I think you got to let him sit for a year, we invested alot in the guy. No need to shake his confidence IMO.

And we know Sherman never used him like that at Texas A & M, right?

Where was he used? Texas A&M?

Yea, this is the MIAMI DOLPHINS. HE WAS THE #8 PICK, A QB.

Same Coach. Same situation. He'll start out sitting on the bench as a QB.

Either he just stays on the bench or he might be utilized that way until he is ready to step into the starting role just like at Texas A & M.

There's no shame in it, A & O.

There's no shame in it.

This is really a waste of time. Tannehill will never be a WR again. Never, ever, ever.

But again... We are moving on from this discussion! smileys with beer

Here's my .02 cents....

He already knows the playbook better than David & Matt. What's the point in trying to baby him? Reading defenses? He seems to be hardworking & smart enough to learn relatively quick.

The sooner he has all the reps with the starters the sooner he'll build a chemistry with them. Today's NFL expects a 1st round pick QB to be able to immediately start and be smart/talented enough to learn on the fly.

If he sits a year and makes stupid mistakes he'll be called a bust. If he immediately starts and makes stupid mistakes they'll be called "rookie" mistakes and he'll be forgiven and learn from them sooner rather than later.

The dude already has a working relationship with Mike Sherman & Zac Taylor. Continuing from college into the pros with two of your coaches is a luxury that no other QB in this draft has. Sure, he didn't have a traditional college career as a QB, but the situation he managed to land in here gives him a unique opportunity to keep marching along instead of breaking his stride. All this plus Philbin's mind in the mix can make Ryan a very capable rookie QB.

As for who the 2012 starter will be it could go either way, but I'm not going to worry if the coaches announce after preseason that he'll be the starting QB, and I wouldn't be surprised if that happened either. The one thing I do expect and hope for is a fierce competition.

*edit* I didn't vote in the poll.

Guess we will find out once Camp starts. If he's a bit Green I hope they don't "Force it".

I hear ya on that. I'd like to believe that these coaches would know better, but it's very likely that this new regime would love to make an early run with "their" guy.

Or you can just pretend to block someone and then make posts THAT PROVE YOU ARE READING HIM.

Someone on this board is doing that.

I tend to think they will be patient with him and let him learn on the sidelines for most of this year. However, in his first start with A&M Sherman didn't bring him along slowly. Tannehill threw the ball 50 times for over 400 yards and 4 touchdowns. So I tend to think that if he outplays the vets in camp, then he gives them the best chance to win and gets played. It is a realistic possibility since he is already more familar with the offense than Moore and Garrard.

He said he learned the playbook already.

Better than John Beck (who spent every waking moment studying the playbook), huh?

The scenarios I envision are as follows.

He will compete during training camp to see where he is in the pecking order. I don't see him winning the starting spot right away. I think he will be intentionally held back at least for the near future.

I think the 3 qbs are very close in ability right now with RT having the most upside. We can win with any of the QB's, I believe. RT has already closed the gab just by having experience in this offense.

Most likely he would win the 2nd spot and step in mid-season. Too many variables to consider at this point...

Does Matt Moore continue to get better even after having to learn a new offense? Is he successfull with WINS?

Does RT light it up and blow away the solid but unspectacular competition?

Are there any injuries that come into play?

Even Marino didn't get the job until mid season and I don't even remember how he performed in rookie year camp.

Ideally RT just blows everyone away b/c he is a superior athlete and has a good grasp of the offense. It will all come down to the refining of his footwork and mechanics and the ability to digest everything needed to identify the different defenses. The latter being the most difficult.

Voted 4. I think Matt Moore, who is a guy I like, is poorly suited for the WCO and they will put Tannehill in early if they feel he is ready.

Why is he poorly suited for the WCO? Please explain

good question eetsi. I think the answer is he's not accurate (though his accuracy wasn't horrible IMO) but I'll let one of the experts explain it

His accuracy and ball placement are, to put it charitably, inconsistent at best.

He also has no experience in the system and from what I've seen of his footwork and movement in the pocket, he just doesn't seem well suited to the system. Footwork is really critical and that's one of the reasons I'm actually very excited about Tannehill. Rex Ryan would love this kid. The way his feet move around in the pocket is a thing of beauty.

I laughed out loud at the prospect of lining him up at receiver...then I wept when I saw people actually voted for that.

I disagree. I'm telling you it was a long offseason and Henne got most of the snaps when it finally started. Moore was really improved at that last game against the Jets then when I first saw him play against Denver. Moore was kind of a Rookie himself . He's as good as Pennington and our best QB since Dan Marino. That said, I hope Tanehill wipes the floor with him. thumbs up
