We need to hit on every pick through R5 if we're going to turn this shit around. And then add one piece of treasure at the bottom of the draft or UFA.
OL DE/OLB are absolute musts. And WR is a guarantee in this draft.
I'm OK with doubling down all those positions. We're not going to solve all our issues in this draft alone. So hedge bets and maximze the chances to hit the right target.

We already have 2 good weak-side LBs (Wake on the outside, Dansby on the inside). No need to spend more here. This is not a point of need. We can pick up a strong-side LB in the 3rd round.

Monte,
Look at all the LB's we been brining in and signing lately...they are all small, 4-3 OLB's.
If, as has been speculated, that means we are moving to 4-3 (even if its has some 3-4 mixed in) then David is a GREAT pick.

When we are in the 3-4, Wake plays on the strong side. We tried him on the weakside in early 2010, and he wasn't comfortable there. This week at the OTA, we were primarily in the 4-3, and Misi was playing on the weak side.
I don't think there's any chance we would take David anyway. He's 6'0, 233, so very undersized for the Ireland LB prototype.
According to the reports this week, we really were in a 4-3. So, if we want a pass rusher, you have to think in terms of DE and not OLB. And initially, this player will likely be a role player. Wake and Odrick will start at DE. On passing downs, Odrick will slide inside, and that opens up a spot for whoever fills this role. So, the pass rusher pick could be a guy that is a one dimensional right now, but could develop further.

Curry or Branch. Bequette and Cam Johnson sound interesting, but not until the 3rd round.

Thats my order as well and I agree on the guys in the 3rd.
i watched UM a lot and don't recall vernon making any plays
another underperforming cane with tons of natural skills---they usually play better in the pros then college

Here's my belief. Pass rushers get by in college on pure athleticism. In the NFL, they have to learn techniques. It takes them time to develop. And Vernon had what, like 9 career sacks in college? To me, he is a developmental guy, and is not someone who would contribute this year.

If we're moving to a 4-3, we need a MLB. I've been saying this for months. We don't have a single player on our roster who's played MLB. Dansby was an OLB in a 4-3

Both Dansby and Burnett played MLB at the OTA this week.
