2nd Round Pick?
Posted by: Jonathan Twilley ()

Upshaw, Branch or Curry would be nice on the edge.

Glenn, Martin, Silatolu and Massie would help on the oline.

Hill and Randle would fill the big receiver void.

Fleener at TE makes sense too.

That's 10 guys that wouldn't hurt my feelings

Philbin just spoke of the Oline needing some work, so I'm not sure of that was a hint or not.

Either way, I see 3 positions of need:

Pass rusher, Oline, or WR.

Should be one of those 3.

I agree. This is a DEEP reciever draft. I see that being addressed with one of the 3rd rounders. Oline is probably the biggest need. Go defense with the extra 3rd rounder and 4th. I'd like to see Tight end and maybe a middle LB/special teamer also addressed.

I'd be stupid to assume Ireland WON'T draft an O-Lineman (he loves O-Linemen), but I'd rather we didn't draft one at all and signed FA's instead. Except for high 1st-rounders, Ireland has been terrible at drafting O-Linemen.

I would love Bobbie Massie. 6'6 315. Would be our Rt for the next 10-12 years.

In my opinion, Guards can be found in the later rounds.

But like you said, Vic. There is not much confidence in the drafting O-line department.

Tonights picks are the "make or break" picks for me, we took a chance on a QB with a load of potential in rnd one (I am 100% behind taking that kind of chance), but if we dont start hitting on these 2nd/3rd/4th rnd picks, this team is going no where. These are the picks that will tell the story IMO.

The next two picks should be for an OT and a WR. They have to get the QB some support whether it's Matt Moore initially or RT down the road.

There are some talented receivers still available as well as OT's. We need to take BPA btw those two postions.

Philbin said we were trying to move back up into the first so they are in hot pursuit of a O and D lineman and a WR. Riley Reiff and Decastro lasted to the 23rd and 24th picks. Would have been awesome to land one of those!

Jeff Ireland was one Mike & Mike and ended his conversation saying:

"We are looking for people who can score touchdowns, sack the QB, and cover guys."

So, sounds like WR, DE/OLB, Safety/CB.

We should go OL or receiver in the second round and get some weapons for tannehill.

my preference list for #42:

Fleener, TE...cant see him getting past colts
Hill, WR...not a prototye WC wr but I'd risk it.
Curry, DE/OLB
Branch, OLB
Cordy Glenn, OT
Mike Adams, OT
Johnathon Martin, OT
Bobby Massie, OT
Brian Quick, WR

I'd be happy with any of those picks. Of course if that's the first nine selections I'm gonna be pissed...smiling bouncing smiley

There are hints that we may try and trade up into the first couple picks of the 2nd round.

It would be smart. Hope we can pull it off and that its not too expensive.

Wonder who the target is?

Just a total guess on my part, but..has to be either Tannehill or maybe Courtney Upshaw.

Just a total guess on my part.

Id rather sit at 42 and take Curry or branch then trade up for upshaw.

Most pundits have Upshaw as the BPA with Fleener as the #2.

Again, I have no clue those were just guesses concerning our needs.

We need WR's bad. We have zero right now

I just dont see the explosion as a pass rusher.

He's a good football player, and if we took him at 42 id be ok with it. But I think Curry and Branch are better pass rushers.

There's a reason Upshaw didn't go ahead of McLellin, Perry, Jones, etc...

I don't think he can play 4-3 olb. That makes him a DE. He's short and has short arms for a 4-3 DE.

Just my opinion, but I'd rather have Curry, Branch, Zach Brown or even a true 4-3 OLB like Lavonte David at 42 then trade up for upshaw. Chances are I could use that 3rd or 3th round pick I'd be giving up on a guy like Olivier Vernon.

And they know that....I think they will go wr plus OL and often with the rest of the picks....and get tannehill 3 or 4 buddies to grow up with....Young same age.....Get in sync with from the beginning.

If they go anywhere else they are dumb.

You got the QB you wanted...Now get him some help....Do not wait for players to fall down or have to trade up to get them..>get them at your spot and do not give away picks.

what about rueben randall?

some very good players still on the board. one of them has to go to fall to us. I'd rather it not be OL, and only a defensive player is he's a sacker.

we are in good shape. glad we don't need to waste a 2d or 3d on a longshot QB since we've got RT

I just hope this draft is as good a draft qb wise as when marino was drafted...

Just hoping..

And i agree if we happen to go anywhere else i hope is a really good pass rusher.

i am just glad we're not talking about having to take oswieller, cousins, or foles

I'd be OK taking russell wilson or even the boise QB in the 6th round though

I'd be happy if it was as good as 2004 (Eli, Rivers, Big Ben). There were 4 QBs taken in the 1st round that year (Losman was the 4th), with 3 taken in the first 11 picks. There were 4 QBs taken in THIS year's draft with 3 taken in the first 8 picks. Also, both Losman and Weeden were taken #22.

So, if Tannehill turns out as good as Big Ben, I'll be ecstatic!

Big Ben went to a Great Team right from the draft. One of the reasons he is the youngest to win a Superbowl.Same with Dan Marino. This is Not the 83' Dolphins so don't expect Tan do do much right away.

I don't.

But now at least we have a direction.

We can build around a QB based on his skill set and how we project him instead of just trying to accumulate good players while hoping a franchise QB falls into your lap.
