Now we'd be cookin if Floyd drops to us in the second...or if we can trade back into the first and take him.

Or, we could draft Wheeden in the second and double up on QB's...no chance here though.

I have no idea how Tannehill will pan out. But I do know that alot of the same people on this board who praise Tannehill for his "elite athletic ability" are the same ones who 365 days ago were criticizing Jake Locker and Christian Ponder for a very similar skillset.

Interesting what a little Jeff Ireland kool-aid can do.

Last I looked this was Philbin's team. It seems like he and the rest of the Phins organization got talked into the bullshit that Sherman was spitting. TERRIBLE PICK!

It's also a big help that we hired Sherman to run our offense.

We did t hire Fl St or Washington O coordinator las year so those picks made ZERO sense at the time.

This pick makes sense.

About freaking time! Not elite? why because of limited experience? BS...

He can either play or can't. Time will tell. At least they finally grew some balls.

He has more experience than Sanchez. Not that MS is good but RT will be better.

Moore starts the season but remember RT already knows the offense. a couple forms of it anyway. That's more than Moore.

And...he played WR at a high level and will bond with the WR's.

Nice pick Jeff! Screw Parcels and his outdated philosophy!

Reach for a project, if barron was there we likely would have moved down

This will be a big win or major bust pick, hopefully things work out and he makes solid decisions. Chad henne had an arm

Chambers,

A top lb,wr, or cb, will not make your team "elite"
Unless you think outside the box, you will continue to be mediocre....

The ONLY position that changes the game is a QB...

No guarantees,,,, but we have an opportunity with this kid to be elite...

IMO, t is necessary to pick a QB in round 1 every year until we hit the jackpot!

This kid has to much talent and intelligence to be a bust!

I predict he will be great!

Aqua, in all honesty you would say the pick makes sense if they took a Punter 8th overall. You're the resident cheerleader of the phorum. That's your role and you play it perfectly man thumbs up

Your probably right. winking smiley

But hey, 29 years ago today we drafted our last 1st round QB. It was time. The pick made sense.

Right!?

I heard Simms on WFAN here in NY yesterday. That removed any doubts for me that he was worth the risk at #8.

By saying this I'm in no way trying to be negative of Tannehill, but I have a hypothetical question for those who are excited we drafted him tonight...

It seems that most of you want him to sit next season and be groomed. That's fine. But if you are so down on Matt Moore at QB, lets just say that Moore plays poorly and and we go 3-13 next year. If that scenario happened would you still be on board with grooming Tannehill or would you want to draft the top QB prospect next year, Matt Barkley?

Well now now that we have our QB do we go WR, DE, TE, S, or LB in the second round? Or do we trade up?

I don't think Moore starts anyways.

I think Gerrard will start and at some point Tannehill takes over.

Yes, groom him, don't play him until he's ready. Even though I have zero problem with us talking another guy next year...or every year until we get a great long term answer for that matter.

I think it will be BPA at WR, DE/OLB or OL.

I wonder if we'd consider Janrois Jenkins if he's still there at 42?

I've got my fingers crossed for Nick Perry, OLB from USC or Mike Adams, OT Ohio St but there's a ton of good players to choose from in that spot.

to be honest this is not 30 years ago, this is not even 10 years ago. In todays NFL there is no sitting and learning. You get pushed into the water and you either sink or swim. This is big business and you cant wait 3 years to develop when quarterbacks like stafford, newton, dalton, rothelesburger, ryan and others all had lots of success from day 1. I agree with hokie, if he sits and next year we have a top 3 pick and a great qb available do we pass to see what we have in tannehill? I say we drafted him top 10 in todays nfl i say start the kid so we know if we need to use another top pick on the position...

I dont know if you know this but rogers was projected 10 ten and i think even as low as #7. He slid and it was a shock to everyone. I remember that he went to radio city and he slid so far back and the media kept asking him how he felt how he felt that they moved him so the media could not get to him. He was a phenominal talent and he only sat was because farve a first ballet hall of famer was in front of him or he would have started day 1.

Anyhow can you give a second example since i gave 5 and can give more...

Would have rather gotten Floyd from ND. With the addition of Blackmon to Jax, the loss of the south beach beast, bess tearing his ACL. We have the worst receiving corps in the NFL EASILY

QBs that sat at least a year:

Phillip Rivers
Tom Brady
Matt Schaub
Josh Freeman (started mid-way through rookie season due to injuries to the starter)
Tony Romo

Of those, Rivers and Freeman were top 10 picks. Remember, Drew Brees had done nothing in the NFL, which prompted SD to draft Eli Manning w/ the #1 pick (that was then swapped w/ the Giants for Rivers). Freeman was behind I think Bruce Gradkowski and Josh Johnson, or maybe Jeff Garcia.

There may be more starters, but it's late and my brain is dead.

Joe Montana also sat on the bench his 1st year, and Dan Marino sat on the bench the 1st 4 games of his rookie season.

You can sit and learn if it's warranted...and you should.

Moore makes that very doable for us. He played well last year for the most part so there is no reason to think with better coaching and a friendlier system that won't continue. Garrard is our insurance policy and Devlin is further insurance.

Tannehill was a good pick...not a single QB in this draft should have started for US, not luck, not Griffin, and not Tannehill or Wheeden either. To start a rookie at QB, for the Phins this year, would simply be stupid. They all need to sit and learn because we don't HAVE to start the rookie...some teams don't have that luxury, but we do.

hey dolphan i completly agree with you and this used to be my mentality also, you should let the rookie sit but the NFL is big business and the new era with the instant success of guys i mentioned ryan, stafford and newton destroying the rookie passing record with over 4000 (are you kidding) no one does that anymore.

OK look at the last 3 years of first round qb's(and very early second) 2009: Stafford, sanchez, freeman 2010: Bradford, Tebow (mccoy) 2011: Newton, Locker, Gabbert, Ponder (dalton). Now please tell me of these first round qb and very very early second round qb's who did not play from day 1 or see signficant time there rookie year? Now tell me again why tannehill should sit 2-3 years in todays era of qb at the #8 overall pick? shouldnt happen...
