Well lets see.......JT Retired. Bell was cut , Merling Cut, and now the bright Idea of Trading Wake. eye rolling smiley

I understand the hope for being a more well rounded Team.....Lets not make plays on either side of the ball!sad smiley

I was being sarcastic with the trade him comment. Well sort of...

I'm a firm believer in the concept that it's better to trade a player a year early then to watch him walk away or release him a year to late.

If I'm gm and I can't get wake or long or any player to sign an extension for what I'm willing to pay them then I trade them once I reach that conclusion.

I don't think we have even discussed an extension with wake yet so it's premature to talk trade.

But if we did trade him, the market will determine what we get. I'd love to get a bunch of 1st round picks for him but if the best offer is a 2nd I'd end up taking it eventually.

Oh whoa is me!

News flash TCPF...players get old and retire. Older Players eventually reach a point where their production isn't worth their salary. And trading players you can't re-sign for picks you can turn into future players is just good business sense.

Getting 10 sacks put of wake this year on an 8-8 team is meaningless if you don't bring him back and he walks at the end of the year.

Trading him for picks u can use to replace him is just the smart thing to do.

Well there goes the Nucleus of a good Team they were talking about then. And you can't go 8-8 without at least SOME decent players. All I see is us jettisoning player after player and No real Plan in place to replace any of them.

JT retired we didn't jettison him.

Bell was released and replaced with a younger version of himself.

Those guys, and merling weren't part of the nucleus of this team.

This team doesn't have a nucleus per se, it's in flux since it doesn't include a qb.

Right now your core players are:

Bush, Thomas, bess, hartline, Wallace, clay, long and pouncey on offense.

Davis, smith, dansby, wake, odrick, Starks and Soliai on defense.

That's not a great core. It's average.

And the guys we've parted ways with so far had little to no impact on that list for this season let alone the next 2-5 seasons.

We will see. Bell was a Probowler. It's not that easy to replace someone like him.

He was also a Team Captain and leader. Not to mention the way he was released.

And speaking of JT.....who gives a shit if he retired or not? He's not here anymore is he?! Either is merling and Wake is underpaid.

Thats the TRUTH btw.........

I think Mr. Philbin is a really smart man and also surprisingly “ruthless” when it comes to basic football production, which includes hard work and being competitive in training. If Merling is a slacker Philbin will cut him loose. Not questions asked.

Look, I liked bell but lets not make something he wasn't. He was a good SS. He wasnt ronnie lott. He was a Good tackler and not so good in coverage, an issue that got worse as he got older.

We replaced him with a younger cheaper SS with a similar skill set.

It's not the end of the world.

Lol. You said he was "jettisoned".

He wasn't.

As for bell...he's 34. Yes he was a team leader. So what?

There was a team leader that he replaced. And there was one before that guy all the way back to the first kickoff of the first practice of the franchise.

Some of you guys act like that is an irreplaceable thing.

It's not.

One thing FOR SURE, we need to start hitting on 2nd 3rd and 4th round picks and find some treasure once in a while in the bottom of the draft.

There's no way you can build a team hitting on safe bets @#1 and a few FA pickups.

Ireland needs to produce and produce consistently across the entire draft spectrum or we're stuck going nowhere.

Wake has issues because we haven't resigned him, I think he is not seeing the team position of being cap strapped now and better next year.

I do however think the FO should let his agent know they will get something done vs this senseless standoff.

Wake has performed and should be rewarded ... not sure of his maturity level, but this wouldn't be the first time we've gotten into a pissing contest playing hurt feelings in the public domain ... not good business for wake

WAKE UP!
