Poll
Who do you want at 8?
Only registered users are allowed to vote for this poll.
25 votes were received.
Tannehill 15

60%
Melvin Ingram 2

8%
Quentin Coples 1

4%
Michael Floyd 1

4%
Someone else 6

24%

Who would you want at #8? No trade ups or trade downs. I was going to leave Tannehill off this list since I assume he will be the run away winner, but we do also really need a pressure D player and there will be some good options there (I doubt Ingram is there bc I think he goes to Jax but you never know).

Voted Tannehill, i believe the only thing missing is experience, he has a good arm, intelligence, leadership skills & the mobility required in modern day NFL. Also with rookie pay-scale, less risk for rolling the dice.

I voted Tannehill too. Not because I am convinced he is worth it, but only bc it seems like the best chance to finally solve our QB problems long term, in the event he actually pans out. Physically he is supposed to be perfect for our offense from everything I've heard reported.
I'd be thrilled with Ingram, however

A WR or pass rusher, or trade back, and pick up a stud MLB

Voted someone else because although if they were singularly (meaning alone by themselves) available at 8, I would take Quinton, Floyd or Ingram, using that same possibility, I would sooner take Justin Blackmon, Matt Kalil, or Riley Reiff because I think our need is stronger at OL than DL and because I would take Blackmon as a WR over Floyd but then again, maybe you are assuming Floyd is gone. That's the problem with the poll, who is gone when we pick and who is left? Are you assuming only the choices you put down are left and if not, why did you put down those choices.

Mr Chyren, I'm pretty sure Mr Berkeley is assuming all the top players are gone by pick #8, my dad dolphaholic stepped away from the computer and even I figured that out, oh by the I'm only 4 yrs old.

Oh well, little boy. Then explain why he had Quinton Coplies, Michael Flyod and Melvin Ingram on the list. They're not "top players?" BTW, psst, your dad ain't too bright.

Tannehill, because he has all of the skills...with some coaching, work, and experience, combined with just a bit of luck (every great player needs a bit of this to be great) he has the potential to be the next Steve Young or Fran Tarkington.

assumption is all of these players are there. most will be. possibly all but 1.

luck
rg3
kalil
richardson
clairborne
blackmon

you'd need only 1 wildcard in there for all to be abailable--there's talk of one of the DTs (poe and some other guy whose name I forget being taken by Jax. So it's entirely possible all these guys will be there, but at worst all but 1 of them (prob tannehill or ingram will be taken before 8, from that list).

IS that what it took going back 29 years to find a successful QB drafted in the first rd with a lower QB completion percentage then your boy Tannehill... WOW that is sure impressive evidence.....

Seems a little contrary to the assumption of Dolphaholic's kid. But you would be the final authority on what you meant, berk.

Actually,

we dont have to go back 29 years. Just go back year after year,

Eli Manning, Tom Brady, Im not even gonna name anymore. I dont have too.

This is a waste of breath.

Nope....that's just the one with the greatest relevance to dolphin fans.

Scroll up a few posts and you can get all the stats from qb's taken in the top ten the last 5 years.

Matt STAFFORD was the top overall pick and Matt Ryan was the 3rd overall pick. BOTH had lower completion % than Tannehill their last year in college and for their college careers.

It's ok to not like Tannehill. It's ok to think his small hands could be a problem at the nfl level when it come to fumbling. They usually are...just ask guys like Dave Kreig. It's ok to think he's inexperienced. It's ok to think he's in accurate (even if he's not).

He's not the perfect prospect or we wouldn't have a shot at him.

But basing your argument on a comparison of completion % for different qb's that play on different teams with different systems and different talent versus different defenses is absurd.

So hard to say. Of coarse I want a QB but I also look at teams that "reached" or traded up the past few years to get their QB....

Sanchez, Gabbert, Locker, Ponder, Tebow, Josh Freeman, Pat White.

Sanchez is on the hot seat.
Gabbert, Locker and Ponder didn't perform well and were outperformed by Andy Dalton who was a 2nd rounder.

Tebow is not a passer.

Freeman just had his sophomore slump.

Even Flacco isn't exactly setting the league on fire after 4 full years.

Just goes to show. For every Dalton, there are 6 or 7 big question marks.

And even he may slump this year now that defenses have film on him.

It is VERY rare to have a rookie come in and make a splash. Even if we draft a QB. We are stuck with Gerrard or Moore or we will struggle with a rookie.

I would like to see how Tannehill grades out against guys like Bradford, Stafford, Flacco, Ryan etc.

I did hear he graded out higher than Ponder or Gabbert but they haven't shown enough to get a good feel.

as long as we don't trade up to get tannehill I am pretty much Ok with taking any of these folks at 8. I wouldn't throw a fit even if we took DiCastro or Reiff, although it would be pretty stupid to take yet another OL in the early 1st round.
Just no trading up for Tannehill!!

Maybe this is just going to turn out to be a big trip all around the mulberry bush just to prove your point about how mad you would be, berk...but

As a practical matter, I don't see any danger of a trade up. The only team reasonably thought to be interested in a QB between no. 3 and no. 8 where we are is Cleveland. Most experts say that Cleveland will take Justin Blackmon. Most experts also have Michael Floyd as going at No. 7 to the Jags.

THEREFORE, it would be stupid (which is probably your point) NOT TO PLAY CHICKEN with Cleveland on their trading down with us and us trading up to them for their no. 4 pick.

I'd say, "Hey if you want Tannehill and want to pass on Justin Blackmon, be our guests. We lost Brandon Marshall. We need a WR as well. If you pass on either to Take Tannehill, we get either Blackmon or Floyd. All you get is another QB to compete with Colt McCoy and you'll miss on the opportunity to get a great receiver for either one of them to throw to."

Also, I don't think Cleveland for the same reasons above would want to trade down to 8 because they would basically lose Blackmon. I don't think Floyd is a comparable alternative to Blackmon.

So, I'd say (Miami that is) "Screw you. You ain't taking Tannehill. We'd be suckers to give up draft picks for somebody we are going to have the opportunity to select anyway."

Of course, your point may be that our management could just be that stupid to fall for that bluff.

that's just my point.

It is stupid to trade up for Tannehill because (1) it is unnecessary bc CLE won't take him at 4 and I seriously doubt anyone trades up past 8 to grab him; (2) if he goes before 8, so be it, let some other team massively reach, it will only push one of the elite players down to 8 for us to take, or to trade down to a team desperate for that player; (3) to me taking Tannhill at 8 is enough of a stretch, certainly not worth spending the 8th overall pick and a 2d and/or 3d (probably both) on this guy (and CERTAINLY not a future #1); and (4) it is just the kind of stupid desperate move we usually make, being everyone's sucker operating from desperation rather than strength, and trading up would confirm my worst fears about this team and that we really haven't progressed past the losers who once gave a 2d rounder for 3d-stringer AJ Feely when no other team even wanted him

I figured that was your point, berk. That's my fear as well. I too believe that if anyone were to make such a dumb move, it would be our ownership. It's just that you reiterated that fear so many times, I began to wonder whether you thought that was a realistic possibility for external as opposed to internal reasons.

BTW, Dolphaholic did you see berk's post as to what he meant by the poll? Or should I say did your 4 year old son see it?

Kalil
Richardson
Blackmon &
Claiborn
are all gone by the time #8 rolls around. Berk?
