IMO the knicks might have the edge over the heat because of the rebounding.

Perhaps, but you don't win if you don't score. The key is still to outscore your opponent, and the Heat have a HUGE edge in that. They also have a better defense.

It all depends on how they mesh together. On paper, Carmelo Anthony and amare staudimire are at the same elite level as scorers that lebron and wade are.

Dantoni's system lives and dies with its pg play. Now that they have one it's about getting the stars to check their egos.

Maybe it works...maybe it doesn't. I think it's waaaaay to early to put the Knicks anywhere near the heats level but if Lin keeps this up there is the potential to have this NY team go to that level.

At least they are worth watching again.

At least in football the fans don't riot and kill each other.

Not in football but in futbol they do. Also, it appears in baseball they put guys into a coma.

Agree we are for sure in the midst of the sporting doldrums.
Upcoming:

March Madness begins Tuesday, March 13, 2012, and ends Monday, April 2, 2012. Hoopla to begin with selections the week prior.

NFL Free Agency starts also March 13th

NLF Draft begins Thursday, April 26, 2012, and ends Saturday, April 28, 2012.

Bottom line ... we are sucking wind for the next month, and thus have to listen to people make stuff up to keep the 24 hour a day sports shows humming

More Lin-sanity last night.

At what point does he become accepted as a pretty good player and not some no-name on a magic carpet ride?

Have you ever seen a story like this before in sports?

Seems similar to what Curt Warner and Johnny Unitas went through in football.

It's just crazy.

Just saw a story that JR Smith is likely to sign with the Knicks also when he returns from playing in CHINA this week.

Jeremy Lin
Jr Smith
Carmelo Anthony
Amare Staudamire
Tyson Chandler

Wow. Samsam could be right. That's more than enough firepower to beat the Heat if they can mesh together.

The Knicks are great on paper, but that's about it. 'Melo has never been a real team player. Amare is injury prone. Lin is an unknown. Chandler doesn't score points.

I don't see any way NY can beat Miami. The top teams in the East will, again, be Miami and Chicago. Everyone else is on a lower level.

Amare had micro fracture surgery a 4 or so years ago but he's only missed a handful of games over the last three seasons. There's always the potential he could blow a knee out but he's hardly injury prone.

Melo is the big question mark.
If he can't get his 20 a night with Lin dominating the ball and instead clogs up the works every time he touches the ball then you are right. It all falls apart.

I'm optimistic he'll adapt to the system instead of forcing the system to adapt to him. He isn't in Podunk USA anymore. If he's the problem the fans and the media will be on his case relentlessly.

As for Lin, he's proven he can contribute at the nba level in a pg friendly system. We'll see at what level of play he settles in at but one thing is for certain...if you add jr smith to that mix they are an incredibly talented offensive group.

It's going to be fascinating to watch.

Can't wait for the heat game next week.

7-0 monti.

Just curious but when do fans of other teams like yourself, especially those that dislike the Knicks for one reason or another, start to look at this team in a new light?

D'Antoni's offense is heavily Point Guard friendly, he couldnt find even a half decent Point to run his system.

But he struck gold with Lin, who can run that offense very well. If Carmelo plays within the team structure, I think the Knicks will make a run.....

then lose to the Heat in the playoffs. grinning smiley

Oddly enough...I could live with that.

It's really weird to watch unfold. They were 8-15 and were losing melo and amare for two weeks. Lin gets to start and the whole thing just falls into place.

I know monti thinks they don't play defense but they have a bunch of good defenders. Schumpert is a terrific defender. Fields and Jeffries are good defenders too. And Tyson chandlers defense and rebounding are perhaps the biggest reason Miami didn't get a ring last year.

Can't wait to see of melo fits in or blows it all up. Cause the other pieces are all in place all of a sudden. Very weird the way it's all gone down.

Ha!

It's definitely given me a different perspective on the tebow thing but I don't think we've reached "cult" status yet.

Besides...other Ethan the fact they are both religious the two stories couldn't be more different.

Lin actually seems like a good player, as opposed to tebow. lin came from no where and tebow was a heisman trophy winning 1st round pick. lin is a better story but the coverage is getting out of hand, due to the fact that he plays in NY. if lin played for the nuggets the coverage would be about 1/2 of what it is.

All true. But it would be like this if it were LA or Chicago or any other major media center.

It's like a perfect storm...unknown overlooked kid from out of nowhere goes to the big city and does what his high priced co-workers couldn't on their own.

Not only is it happening in NY where everything is bigger, but it's happening in a sport where you'd least expect it. Where the schedule has them playing every other nite. And it's happened during the 1 month of the year when there's no football or baseball.

Incredible.
