This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
The way to do it is through continuity. Right now we still pretty much have that:
Nolan-Good DC.(Many teams would love to have him.)
Daboll- Not proven yet. However he got us our first ever 1000yd rusher & 1000yd receiver, the offense put up more points, and he made an average QB look better than average.(All good signs).
Ireland- Had a solid draft.
So based on the above, to keep these three guys we should promote:
Bowles to coach.(It would be hard for opposing coaches to gauge him being a 1st yr coach). He would be plugged right in and would not break the continuity of the staff.
Next we neeed to Draft a Qb.(Keep Moore and give him a chance & create a healthy competiton between him and the rookie.
Ross is destroying our creditibility by:
-The Sparano/Harbaugh debacle. Rendering Sparano powerless.(Coaches don't like this)
-Handcuffing Ireland as a Gm rendering him powerless.(Coaches don't like this)
-Trying to piece people together.(Coaches want their own gm and staff)
Ross is turning us into the "smelly kid in class."
Keep continuity for one more season and draft a qb and that stink will go away and creditibility will start to be restored and this franchise will be relevant once again.(Coaches & players will be interested in us once again and the guys who did good for us this year will get a second chance to prove themselves.)

you want to keep continuity for a 6 win team that started out 0-7?
no thanks. don't they say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? this plan sounds insane.

I'm looking at the alternatives here. Cowher, Harbaugh, Gruden etc all want nothing to do with us. Fisher maybe if we give him tons of money but he stated he wanted a qb and others stated he wants his own gm. So who is left?
This staff we have isn't terrible and neither is our team(they have taken some positive steps). But Iguess we could force a mediocre or no name coach in here and blow it all up and start back to square one and start another 4 yr rebuild.

If we can't get Jeff Fisher, then I'm actually open to the idea of keeping things as-is for another year. It would be good if could get an experienced HC to mentor Bowles. Sparano had Parcells, but we should have known pretty early that Sparano wasn't up to the task.
What if we hired Bill Cowher as a consultant to "teach" Bowles?

why would he take a job as a consultant if he doesn't want to coach? he wants to keep his chushy tv job, so at best we'd be getting him in his "off time." plus that would totally undermine bowles.
honestly, if we can't get fisher I'd rather venture into the unknown than keep what we have--which is AT BEST a 97 squad. yes we got burned with coordinators in the past (cam cam) but it also sometimes works out (peyton, mccarthy). remember when mccarthy was hired he had just been OC of a SF offense that ranked in the 30s. So you never know----the key is obviously the QB
if we keep bowles as HC then expect tickets sales to plummet even further, unless we end up with luck or RG3

So basically you are willing to risk losing A DC as solid as Nolan, an OC that gave us a 1000yd rusher and passer and scored a decent amount of points with a pretty much unknown QB, and a solid secondary coordinator for three guys we don't even know exsist or would be willing to work together.

First off, I realize Cowher doesn't want to coach, but why would that make him turn down a consultant gig. It's just money. He's not responsible for the team winning or losing. He doesn't have to do it on Sundays. I don't see what the big deal would be.
As for undermining Bowles, I could see that if Bowles was already an experienced HC. Fact is, he's NOT. Bowles hasn't even been a coordinator. In fact, he's NEVER been a HC at ANY LEVEL!! A guy like that should welcome a mentor like Cowher to give him tips and let him know what to expect. Sparano had Parcells to bring him along. I hate to give the job to Bowles without guidance. It would be like Cam Cameron all over again!!! At least Saban and Wanny had previous HC experience. Bowles has none.

So who do you see out there that is available? would want to join us? and would be willing to work together from the top down?(HC,DC,OC ETC.)
You can't just say we suck without a plan to replace what you dislike.

Who said we don't have a plan? Get a winning head coach (at least someone who likes Touchdowns over feild goals) and give up what it takes to get the #2 overall pick in the draft. Sounds like a plan to me......

Which winning head coach are you referring to?

Cowher seems firm on not coaching here. Luck could happen but alot of things would have to happen.

lol you should run for a political office.
I like how the team performed under Bowles, would not nmind if he ended up w/ the job. I am not in favor of trading our draft picks to move up even for Luck or RGIII. Draft wisely and get a veteran qb to challenge Moore next year.
