I don't think you can bank on luck...and to some extent, you create your own luck. But, I read somewhere just a couple days ago that the Chiefs & Eagles were #1 & #2 in the league in terms of health (i.e. not losing players to injury). In addition, they both had some pretty significant things go their way besides health. KC had the most rookie-played starts for a SB-winning team,

That is what gives me by far the most hope. For 20 years, we've had games on our schedule where if we brought our A game and "they" brought their B- game, they'd still likely beat us. Last year was totally different in that regard but we only got to see glimpses cuz we weren't near 100% for so many games.

I agree that we have the kinds of problems with salary cap for which we would have liked to have seen more and deeper playoff appearances and runs. We definitely are a much more talented team than we have been in years - especially in terms of proven elite talent & legit near-term potential for elite. That said, I have tried to figure out the salary cap maneuverings over the past few year

I voted undecided. Regarding the 2019/2020 heavy lifting of our rebuild, I think huge mistakes were made. - winning a couple of meaningless games at the end of 2019 that put other teams in the driver's seat for pick of the litter in the 2020 draft - blowing the overwhelming majority of 2020 FA spend on 1-year rentals - drafting players like Jackson, Igbonoghene & Eichenberg as 1st ro

96. Re: Tua
Tua's parents just publicly proclaimed Tua will be back playing next year for the Phins. They gave a decent amount of additional commentary supporting that perspective. Certainly things can always change, but as of now they were clear in communicating that. I've had the privilege of working closely with a handful of Samoans in a way that allowed me to see how their culture and values shape t

I'd say it was good for me to see how we played Buffalo this year and, overlappingly, how they played in the playoffs. We already know that in 3 games this year, a net 4 points separated us...when previously we'd been routinely getting our axxes kicked badly (is there any other way?) ever since Allen became a Bill. I believe that if our defense is relatively healthy, it's more talented than

I believe the following defensive players have the potential to be elite or very close: - Wilkins - Phillips - Chubb - Holland - Howard And I think a handful of others could be considered or have potential to be top 1/2 of the league at their position. I think that would be pretty attractive to potential d-coordinators. I envy Buffalo where Les Frazier is a fixture at d-coordinat

The 1st big move of the offseason is Boyer's departure. Given that he came w/Flores and we sought continuity on defense, the rash of injuries to the secondary especially hurt him as we're built from the back forward on D. That said, I see this as an opportunity for significant improvement. I don't think he even got production = to the sum of the parts, so to speak, with the players that were

I'd expand on the 2020 Grier disappointment. Setting Tua aside, we had money and picks. Money: - Byron Jones: expensive and caused an issue w/X's comp. Until this year, I'd have said he's mostly worth it cuz our D is built from the back forward. TBD if he's even remotely close to "worth it" in the future. - Kyle Von Noy: I think he was essentially brought in to install Flores'

Proud of the effort. The sum total of point differential among the 3 games we played BUF was -4. That's unbelievably encouraging. Some drops & mistakes today, but proud of the effort. Especially on D - they came to play. Hopeful that next season isn't as injury-plagued for us.

Reading "if the oline plays well we always have a" reminds me of a time 30 years ago when a girl friend of mine came to our house stoned on pot. My mother happened to have made some brownies or cookies or something. She spent a bit of time, had a couple of the baked items and headed out. As she was leaving, I remember her calling out in a relatively loud voice so my mother could hear

I'm thinking you may have meant Armstead and Williams are the keeper starter material. I'd add Robert Hunt. He's no Armstead by any means, but he grades out well this season in a decent jump from his grades for his first 2 seasons. Ever since his crazy illegal reception vs. the Ravens last year, I've been secretly hoping they'd draw up a play for him this year :-) I'd absolutely love it if

More generally, I'll answer for why I've stayed. I've yet to find another place where the folks participating and contributing genuinely seem to want to discuss how the Phins can be best. In other places, it seems like folks have pet positions & bones to pick more than some sort of mutual conversational pursuit of how the team can be best.

Just a quick response to your bit about QB's getting knocked out. I think it's a decent way of trying to bring a spirit of reasonableness to the issue. Maybe a 1:1 outage ratio vs 2:1, I don't know. And I do know that whatever the rule, there are those who can leverage and manipulate it.

Well, I feel like an ass if Tua's concussion impacted his ability to play well in the 4th quarter, and I don't see how it couldn't have. His play was so night & day. Wishing him well as he works his way through this.

Complete bed-$hitting. Last 5 possessions = 3 INT, 1 Fumble, 1 missed FG. I used to think that one of Tua's strengths was the intangible "winner" persona. But, it was largely based upon one half of football played before he made it to the NFL. We'll see...

I agree w/Treasure that we don't have a player at the most important position who can create magic on his own at the most critical moment when nothing else is going right. That puts us in the company of the vast majority of the league. I don't think it relegates us to good team that doesn't get it done when we need it the most, but it means we're less likely to and other players/parts of the te

With the defense apparently dropping LB back and jamming WR off the line, our running game has to show up. If the LB are giving space, we have to make them pay there. It'll be tough in the wind & weather, but we also really need to hit long throws when we attempt them. The 1st pass attempt of the game against LAC if Tua hits it, it's a 75-yd TD. I do agree that if the running game is go

I'd even say the 1st half of the Texans game, really. We left so much on the field even going up 30-0 with a defensive score, etc. I'm not smart enough to know what adjustments are needed, but they clearly are needed. Play like this will result in 0 wins (or maybe a lucky one somewhere) the rest of the way.

You may be right. I felt like Tua and the receivers were off in the HOU game coming off the bye as well...it was just covered up by jumping up 30-0 in the 1st half. Maybe they did try to change something over the bye week that hasn't worked out the way they thought or something. In part of his presser, Tua took full individual responsibility...in another part it was more like shared responsi

Agreed - no reasonable explanation for why Tua played so unlike he has this season. I was also reminded of the TEN game last year, but weather wasn't a factor. I get that even really good players have off days. My son & I were talking right before the game, and we agreed that the SF D is so good that we wouldn't be able to make many mistakes. We left SO many yards (and their accompanyin

My hope is that this game can serve as a notification w/o penalty of these concerning things. In other words, it's perhaps good that a spotlight can be shown on these things while still winning the game. It sounds like Armstead's injury isn't as bad as it could have been, but will likely keep him out @ SF where their D is one of our biggest tests all year. For years, I've advocated that we

Yeah, he wasn't putting up the numbers he has the past couple of years. And, they eye test (for me, at least) confirms that it's been a down year for him relative to 2020 & 2021. But, he's a quality part of our DLine rotation with run stopping, changing/tipping passes (again, more in prev years) and just leadership and taking snaps to keep others fresher. Tough loss

Not asking, but wishing you speedy & full recovery. No team can be consistently leaving points on the field. There's too much parity and every point really counts, not only in the final score but also in how the game plays out in real time and coaching/approach decisions. Anyway, I know I'm preaching to the choir here, so to speak.

Re-watched just the highlights and the OL really performed well in both the running & passing games. The backs had good vision and ran hard, but there were holes opening up consistently and some of them were absolutely massive.
