I recall seeing that teams could not sign free agent college players beyond the ones they draft. Why not have a draft of 15-20 rounds this year?
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
2009 draft is a B but still incomplete (as Berkeley 223 pointed out due to Turner/White)
2008 draft B+/A-
Just looking at this list of Dolphin drafts it seems like 1 year after the draft you get a good idea of how it shaped up. 2 years you know for sure.

Interesting post Reppa and since you've been a long-time, well-informed and predominantly positive poster, I admire you for posing the question.
Since this is a Phins-first forum and you weren't trying to stir it up (in my opinion), I'm a little surprised at the animosity here.
For what it's worth I believe the African-American Pat White threw very few passes because:
1.) The coaching

Simple Year in Review (through 15 games):
1.) 360 points allowed.
NO Playoff-clinching team is even close to allowing 360 points. The closest is New Orleans with 318 points allowed.....but 500 points scored.
2.) Dolphins have been OUTSCORED 336-360 (Jets 311-236)
3.) Pittsburgh vs Miami
2 weeks ago, Pittsburgh was 6-7, fresh off a loss at Cleveland, 5 game losing streak (including e

Posted this on another thread, more appropriate here (and YES as stated earlier, bad calls are part of every sport and it's a mark of a good team to overcome them).
Penalties and Referee's, seemed to favor the Jets too much (I know, all biased fans will say the same thing). FOUR 1st downs for the Jets via penalty. Two come to mind as bad calls (and I believe the announcers said the same): Will

I actually thought the announcers did OK, I too was having Edwards-envy (hoping the Ginn-sighting is the BEGINNING not a single-occurrence).
What pissed me off was the Penalties and Referee's, seemed to favor the Jets too much (I know, all biased fans will say the same thing). FOUR 1st downs for the Jets via penalty. Two come to mind as bad calls (and I believe the announcers said the same):

Peter King was on a Bay-Area (N.CA) radio show (KNBR)
and said every fan feels like their team won the Super Bowl
over draft weekend....which he labeled the 4th most popular
sporting event....because of nuts like us.

Thanks for the feedback...PRO & CON....maybe I should have done a pool?
Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting running from the Patsies
or alienating NorthEast Phin-fans and I don't think potential Dolphin national-prominence would be impacted by playing in Houston-Jax-Titans (our Won-Loss records against them might be worse than within the current AFC-east).
By the way, my perspective

A little late in responding but...
Is a dominant, 29-year-old, multi-Pro-Bowler "Aging"?
Is Peppers similar to Jason Taylor, last year?
Admittedly I had to look up the comparisons but Peppers
has been in the league 7 years (JT was 11 years before the trade w/Skins).
Peppers has missed games in only 2 of the seasons (6 total games)
and averaged 10 sacks a game/season.
I'd sa

Reported on Yahoo Sports and NFL.com that the Patriots are trying to work out a deal to trade the 34th pick in the draft (2nd pick in 2nd round, from KC for Cassel).
THAT seems like the Panthers are settling for less than they can get from another team....admittedly one with LOTS of CAP room.
I'd love to see any other team (of course the Phins too) get in here and AT LEAST get the Patriots to

Sorry, put this on another thread but wanted to add it here too.
What's the COMBINED CAP money KC absorbed with both Cassel & Vrabel ???
While the 2nd rounder does seem light "payment" from KC but maybe the Patsies needed to move BOTH to lower their cap space and KC was the only place that could work.

Sorry, I know there are other Free Agency threads here but I can't think of any other way to label MOST of what we're seeing in Free Agency, STUPID MONEY. Even without a designated CAP for 2010, these numbers are ridiculous.
NOW it seems apparent the pre-signings by the Phins (Carey, Crowder, etc.) made A LOT of sense before stupid money was thrown around.
A related topic: Pennington's $4.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
Very Solid move, hopefully reasonable CAP space hit.
Perhaps even another center in the draft to accomplish depth on the OL (with Satele as back-up guard or trade bait).
Of course I'm happy to see a VT-Hokie on the Phins!

Note: I'll update my 1st post to add Y. Bell
I believe that helps...
Yes, I believe V. Holliday contract will be either:
1.) lowered (unlikely, needs Holliday's agreement)
2.) Extended/restructured (I believe this is the last year, not sure)
With a deep draft at Center, it will be interesting to see what Free Agent center the Dolphins pick up now that there is much less cap room. I say

Good points DaytonaDolfan.
While L. Coles might get $4M on the open market, hard to believe the Dolphin F.O. will commit that much in 2009 Cap money for a him.
Also, while 2010 has no CAP, isn't there an expectation there will be one? And if there is a CAP, hopefully there is not $9-$10M in DEAD cap space....Lehan (cornerback) for $3.3M and no longer in Football, another $2.5M for QB's (Fe

Interesting, lively discussion regarding JT/BP.....
2 key things I haven't seen:
1.) Bill Parcells seems to value players that can contribute (at the right salary).
PERFECT case in point: Ricky Williams
2.) There's a HUGE difference in situation this year versus last year.
Up until last year all signs indicated JT was a GREAT team player.
JT looking for a legitimate chance for a ring

tsstamper: THANKS for the valuable update.
Could you also post WHERE you're getting your cap-space information?
(I've had troubles finding this).
THANKS!

Restating the obvious Pro's and Con's for moving the ProBowl from Hawaii & 1 week before the Superbowl:
Con's:
Players from the Super Bowl teams won't play
Players missing the perk of going to Hawaii
Pro's:
Fan interest potentially higher during the dead week before the superbowl (I personally like this).
What I haven't seen discussed is which format makes more money for the NFL,

I've seen many different projected 1st round selections but what happens if the targeted players are not there (AND/OR a juicy draft-day trade is offered)?
I have to admit I've been envious of the Patriots' trading down to accumulate more (quality) picks.
What has been the Tuna's draft history of Trading DOWN?
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
Very entertaining SuperBowl, impressive play by both teams...so it's hard to label one as "lucky".
I think the Cardinals were "unlucky" on that long Steeler drive, with THREE Unsportsmanlike penalties. NONE looked flagrant.
Definitely did not understand the running-in-to-the FG holder, could be a rule to protect the "vulnerable" holder but still be bad on a co

The critical schedule comparison is the Dolphins .vs. the Patriots.
(not the strenght of schedule comparison between 2008/2009).
14 games are the same (essentially), the 2 different games:
The Patriots have Baltimore (11-5) and Denver (8-8)
Dolphins have Steelers (12-4) and San Diego (8-8)
While I'd prefer those 2 games the Patriots have, it still comes down to being one win better than
