Long should never have been in the game yesterday. He already had an injured back, it was time to shut him down. Anyway we should have been in evaluation mode a long time ago (like when we were 0-7)--playing rookies and backups as much as possible to see who stays next year. For example, what is the point of playing Columbo another minute?

Maybe Bowles just wants to do the opposite of whatever Sparano did.

Here's another thought: why not forgo every single field goal attempt and go for it on fourth down when we're in field goal range? If we had done that all year, our record wouldn't be any worse, and it might be better. It puts more pressure on the opposing defense, gives Moore and our offense extra snaps in the red zone, makes for more exciting football, and we'll never see another Sparano p

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Barkley stays at SC. He's no Matt Leinart, who just wanted to be big man on campus--Barkley's wired to play in the NFL. His stock has gone way up this season. Maybe he'd be number one overall next year, but he's definitely top five this year, maybe #2 overall. At this point, another year of college is just taking one more year away from his NFL career.

Yup, this is the Bizarro playoffs--weaker schedule wins. One more reason to root against the Pats, Jets, and Bills every week.

It's tricky--you have to sign someone halfway credible so that it's not obvious that we're throwing the season. For example, signing Cleo Lemon (yes, he's available) would be too obvious. Of course, you could argue that the Columbo signing was already a dead giveaway.

Sage will be starting in a few weeks if Marc Columbo has any say in the matter. . .

The consensus is that the Pats currently have the best QB and coach in the league. As of this moment, their defense is dead last in the league in yards given up. I'm pretty sure Belichick knows the importance of a good defense. So I guess putting one together is easier said than done.

If the only thing standing between you and putting Nolan Carroll on Andre Johnson is a healthy Vontae Davis, you might want to keep Davis off special teams.

incredibly, the Colts are starting to look like legitimate contenders for that top spot--they've got a tough schedule and Manning is likely out for the year. their game against KC could be their most important game of the year. they'll have to work hard to lose that one.

If Beck does turn into a credible starting quarterback for the Redskins, all of a sudden the 2007 Randy Mueller draft I had always thought was a disaster would start to look halfway decent. #9 Ted Ginn Jr. Obviously the biggest flop. But Ginn at least isn't out of the league—he was third in the NFL in punt return average for the 49ers last year. You don't want to spend a #9 pick on that,

Another strange fact: Oakland was undefeated in its division and still missed the playoffs.

My own take is that the one question Ross has to answer is whether Ireland is capable of getting the job done. The other questions (Sparano, QB, etc.) follow from that one. This team needs a major, major overhaul of the offense. Almost every position (w/the exception of LT) and every offensive coach needs to be addressed. Does Ireland have the ability to carry out such an overhaul? T

If Saban had chosen Brees over Culpepper he'd still be our coach. Heck if Wannstedt had chosen Brees over Fletcher he'd still be our coach. And if Ireland had chosen Ryan over Long, he'd still be the GM next week. A single decision can make or break you.

Here's something: Oakland beating KC, if they hold on, we pick ahead of them (i.e., NE).

For the sake of argument, let's assume for a moment that God did make Johnson drop the ball. Why would he do such a thing? Because he bet on the Steelers? Not likely--there's not a sportsbook in Vegas that would accept a bet from God. You'd be guaranteed to lose. Here's another possibility. It was a test. Now I don't know what the correct answer to such a hypothetical test would be, but

If we had drafted Brady Quinn instead of Ted Ginn, Jr., we could have traded him for Peyton Hillis. See, we are involved.

You're right, they already lost to Baltimore. I should have said they still have games at NE, Pit, and Chicago. Should be three tough games for them.

Yeah, my bad. Vontae. I'm trying to think positively, but I guess I can't completely ignore the sad TE situation.
