Called and said I was cancelling, when they asked why I said the only reason I have Dtv was for the ticket and its too expensive, also mentioned how they were giving it free to new customers. The guy basically went straight to that deal, Starz was all him. If you call go straight to cancelling, it gets you directly to the guy that can cut you a deal.
I totally agree with you guys....I have been a loyal customer for many years and gotta pay 300 plus while some new customer gets it free....the BS flag is flying high on this idea....not a smart move by direct TV to piss off loyal customers.

haha remind you of anything? Kind of seems exactly like the NFL, how a free agent comes in that your team lured to town with a HUGE contract, while the loyal veterans who have been with the team for a long time don't get that kind of huge lucrative deal. So your veterans get resentful of the new guy who just got big money but hasn't done anything for the team yet.
But anyway, Directv does that to lure new customers. They figure if they already have you as a customer, maybe you've been with them for 3 years, they don't need to throw a bunch of discounts and free sh!t at you. But in the hopes of securing a new customer, they're willing to offer the world to them. Most companies do that kind of stuff.

This reminds me of the shakeout in the cell phone industry, when there used to be at least twice the carriers they have now. My phone carrier was bought by T Mobile. When the contract was up, I noticed they had a "free phone" promotion for new customers only. I went in the store and asked for my free phone to re-up my contract. They said no, it's for new customers only. I said I *was* a new customer, my prior contract was with Voicestream, not them. They still said no. Okay, you just lost a customer, dumbasses. I walked across the street to the AT&T store and got THEIR free phone instead.
The problem with DirecTV is that they don't have a direct competitor where Sunday Ticket is concerned. One can't threaten to go to Cable to get the same service, or another satellite provider.

But it is not just $300, you have to have DTV package, if you want in HD then HD pack, If you have a DVR another charge, and best of all if you live in Florida you have to deal with rain fade every day. You work all day to pay for TV them come home and see searching for signal. Then you have to get another company for Internet service.. My bill for DTV is over $200.00 then another $50 for internet service, then a phone bill. I could get Uverse or Xfinity Bundle and save a dam Bundle..Oh now throw on your $300.00 And in my case I have season Tickets, so I am at Sun Life half the season the other half I watch the Phins on local TV when they are on the road. So I may watch one Game on Dam Sunday Ticket half the weeks, that is if the National game is not what I want to watch on local TV. So in the end I watch about 6 or 7 games on Sunday ticket, put up with all the rest of DTV as I listed. They should give me Sunday ticket free every year... LOL The Bar is cheaper.....

Now we all know why lawyers refer to their profession as "the Bar"
I just called and they took $15 off per month for the next 12 months. At first they wanted to remove some of my regular channels just for football season to lower my bill but I didn't like that idea. She then switched me to another department and that's when I got the discount without losing any channels... It's something I guess.
I work for a directtv competitor. Lets say its a company that offers cell phones and tv/internet/phone service? You'll figure it out. Anyway, from what I have heard on the floor, directtv is about to lose their monopoly over sunday ticket soon. So cable providers might be able to ante up soon and provide it to normal folks with cable.

What about satellite service, does your employer offer satellite tv? that would make it more of a true competitor. But I get it, cable/fiber optic tv is competition too.
Great news to hear too, cable / fiber optic providers getting in on the sunday ticket thing would be huge. Especially if pay-per-view were an option. It can't arrive soon enough.
Also, for those of you that didn't like the rep u got on the line when you called direct tv? Why didn't u just hang up and call back in until you were comfortable with your rep? People do it constantly.

By competitor, I simply meant competing for customers entertainment service business, such as TV internet phone etc etc. But yea from what I understand DirecTV's contract is almost up. And as we all know about the NFL, they will open it up to the highest bidder. My guess is going to be ComCast or ATT will grab the contract. In conjuction I believe DirectTV will keep it as well in some form. Just to widen coverage.
I called to complain tonight, and they said they could offer me $60 off. So, I said if that was all they could do, I would cancel Sunday Ticket. They transferred me to someone else, and he offered me $120 off. I was ok with that.
