I heard it reported 20-25... Besides a GAME-BREAKING RB, here's a guy I'd like to see suit up in AQUA n ORANGE - TE ZACH MILLER

no QB worth breaking the bank for at this point
$20mm isn't a ton of space compared to some team---though it is much better than others

I am not sure Solia and his agent are going to come off that tag money. I hope so, but when I have heard Solia talking it sure didnt sound like it. He was talking about how he was going to live up to the 12 million dollar a year pay check.. I sure hope not, but I am not sure he is gonna want to give back that guaranteed paycheck.. I suppose they could give him a 6 million dollar signing bonus and 5 or 6 a year and that would give him just about the same money but they could prorate the signing bonus throughout the duration of contract instead of the hit for one year... SO yes PF2, i just talked myself into it, there are defintly ways to make something work for Solia in reducing his impact on this years cap.

We can't pull the franchise tag from Soliai because he already signed a contract. If he and his agent want to work a long term deal to lower the cap number, that's still a possibility. But, unlike some of the unhappily franchise tagged players, Soliai signed that deal right away.

And the NFL salary cap did not go down. It was $128M in 2009, and will be $130M this season. And the salary cap floor is rising significantly.

After signing rookies and a few of our own players, we'll only be looking at $5M or so for free agency. Unless we create some significant space, we won't be much of a player. And it's also why we won't be trading for Kyle Orton and his $9M salary, or Carson Palmer and his $12M salary.

Peter King is reporting that Donovan McNabb will be here this season.

Serious question here; Would he be a short term upgrade over Henne? I would have to say yes, he does nothing for us long term but he could help save Iereland/Sopranos jobs for another year.

I am coming around to phinsfan's view of letting us sink or swim with henne this year, and not to get a vet on his last legs like mcnabb. say mcnabb beats out henne and has an OK year, and we win 9 games. Then what? we will still need a QB next season. I'd rather roll the dice on the off chance Henne puts it together and becomes a great player (still possible, though seemingly unlikely), and if he does not, we get a shot at one of the franchise QBs next year. Better than treading water for 1 season....

Pouncey's deal alone will be around a $3M cap hit. Thomas' deal will be around a $1M cap hit. I'd say it's more like $5-6M for the draft picks. Hilliard, Garner, and Sheets will account for a little over $1M.

yes, a terrible idea:
(1) we don't have the cap room to do this without cutting tons of players and ignoring every other positon
(2) as you note both are injury prone
(3) we spent a 2d rounder on a RB this year
(4) it would be a stupid team indeed to tie up a huge amount of cap space in the RB position, which is pretty much the easiest posiiton to find
(5) neither player is worth the $$ they will be seeking/will probably get

otherwise, I like it

I think we should make a serious play at Eric Weddle.

He is one of the best Safeties in the league and now that San Diego signed Bob Sanders, it almost garauntees he will be let go.

It never, ever hurts to continue to add upgrades to the defensive side of the ball, especially that he isnt even reached his prime yet and is only 26.

Weddle was All-Pro last year.

My bad on the estimate. The new CBA calls for a maximum of $4.9M to sign draft picks. So, our draft class will probably come in around $4M.
