I just heard a commercial for Sunday Night Football. Has anything been resolved? I can't remember the words of the commercial but it was like, "football will come back."
*Update* SOme in the media are suggesting that because certain players met with their antitrust lawyers today , that a deal maybe done. Because in order for the CBA to be approved the first step is getting the players invovled in the lawsuit and their antitrust attorneys to sign off on a deal... SO based on the meeting between the players and their antitrust attorneys some are speculating a deal could be done in theory and now it is just a sign off time which could last a week or 2.
I think they will have a deal before the 8th cir rules, so the players can avoid a bad future precedent for them. since a ruling should come out in less than 2 weeks (I think), that's the timeline
We are going to see one hell of a FA frenzy when they make a deal. I can't wait. I'm looking for a LG, RB, QB and OLB. I read a good article this week talking about players we need to look at. Kevin Burnette and D Williams were two of them.
I don't know if we add any more $$ at the OL. If we did I'd want a backup tackle who doesn't suck. We *should* have 4 of the 5 positions set---Long, Incognito, Pouncy, Carey, and we've got lots of contendors for the remaining guard spot---Jerry, Gardner, Berger, etc. One of though guys hopefully will come thru.
We need another RB but I think it may be more like a Sproles type than a D Williams who will want too much $$ and is injury prone.
Obviously we need a QB with my top 2 choices being V young or Bulger, if we can't get Orton for a 3d.

And sink even MORE money into the O-Line? We're on our way (if not already there) to having the highest paid and most underachieving O-Line in the league!! Look, Hudson Houck did wonders with much less talent (and much lower salaries) than we have now. If Ireland/Sparano can't get this line performing as-is, then the problem isn't with the players.

RESPONSE: Reading this makes my head spin because I remember what a big deal it was when the New York Yankees gave Mickey Mantle a contract for $100,000 a year.

One guy.

But, when Carey is gone, won't we have a HUGE NEED at RT?
>
> We not only have a HUGE NEED at LG,
HUGE NEED? Bigger than RB, TE, QB? Who's going to score more TDs for you, an overpaid LG (all highly touted FA O-Linemen end up overpaid, btw) or someone at those other 3 positions?
Look, we already have a very highly-paid O-Line....and what did it do for us last year?!! As I said, Hudson Houck did a TON more with less. Before we continue to throw money at the problem hoping it goes away, maybe we should evaluate the entire system.
Phinsfan2: I agree that we need another solid OG, but taking the best guy available has meant, in today's game, grossly overpaying someone because of hype. FA O-line salaries have skyrocketed in the last few years, and the guys getting those salaries haven't lived up to their billing. With the talent we have already, I think all we need is a veteran starter...but not necessarily a pro-bowl-level athlete. We need someone who plays smart. I'd love another Justin Smiley-type.
Notice how we've been, primarily, building our O-Line through the draft. Long, Jerry, Pouncy, Carey...all were drafted by us. Three of those guys are 1st rounders and the other was a 3rd rounder. Meanwhile, we have mostly nobodies at TE, and our RB situation this coming season is completely up-in-the-air.
Suffice to say we've concentrated heavily on the O-Line in the last several years, but the results haven't been what one would expect. We had a better overall O-line under Houck with journeymen.

I remember when it was a huge deal when canseco got $5mm per year. They were referring to contracts like that as "canseco" money for awhile. now that's underpaid in a lot of circles.
