We needed a receiver who can get open 3rd downs in the red zone and he can do that. Also he will help with catching the ball out of the backfield something Polite can't do.
It's not who you pick but sometimes where you pick them. Clay went to Tulsa and as much as I love my home state, I don't think that there was much danger that we couldn't get him later.
Of course, you can have your "steals" in mind but the mistake teams often make is they think everybody else "sees" and also values as highly the "steals" that they see.
Therefore, instead of being cool and drafting the BPA for other needs, they skip ahead and draft the "steal."
Then the draft guru talks about what "hey, now that I think about it, this might be a good pick."
THen our silly front office pats themselves on the back.
But, hey guys, even if he turns out to be the steal of the draft, who says he would not have been around in the 7th round.
The guy played at Tulsa for Godsakes. Who do you think are the teams in their league?
Now if he turns out to be an All-pro, you can't get on my case because my complaint is WHERE we picked him, not that we DID pick him.
