Well, berk, if it was the draft gurus who frightened the other teams away like the charge of a lioness scathers a herd of antelope, Mallet may be there in the 3rd.

However, I suspect that a crafty old G.M. was responsible for making Mallet drop by floating the "character" rumors and he will complete his "con" by snapping Mallet up, only to laugh at the rest of the fools, even the team that took Locker, for the next decade.

I think if any team needs some laughter their way, it's Minny. What are they thinking? Biggest reach this year by far.

we've spent a ton of high picks on OL

cary--1st (overrated and not so good)
jerry--3d (jury still way out on him)
pouncy--1st (man we need him to be a pro bowler for this to work out)
black hole we've thrown picks and $$ at (smiley, incognito, murphy, thomas)
long---1st overall

our OL should be strength! next year it better be

In a year where the entire staff is on the hot seat, it's not a surprise.

Dont forget, Jake Long was the "safe" pick too. Worked out pretty good.

Ted Ginn was the "Sexy" pick....EPIC FAIL.

i wouldn't hold long out as an example, since we passed on the more risky matt ryan to get him (not to beat this dead horse again). but there was no ryan out there this year so I am OK with the pick

After we sign Pouncy, exactly how much of our salary cap will be invested in the O-Line? You know, O-Linemen aren't allowed to carry the football...or throw it...or catch it!

Your right Monte.

They only open up running lanes and keep defenders out of our QB's face.
Guess that isnt a big deal though, right!?

Ya know...since they dont pass, run, or catch.

I'm ok with this pick, would of liked a trade down scenario but I just think there weren't any takers. Henne, Bulger and either a rookie or Thigpen?

maybe its Enderle or Stanzi in the third, but we need RB & WR, and a lot will be going off the board in the 2nd & third

pats might trade the first pick in the second and someone will take a QB

Mallett could fall to us in the 3rd, possibly get DeMarco Murray in the 4th, and DJ Williams in the 5th.

But I want Casey Matthews....he is not our "prototypical" player. So its a pipe dream.

Either way. Good start to the draft. No matter what the pick would be, somebody was going to be pissed.

But I think this pick will prove to be successful when he is named to the Pro Bowl in his rookie year.

Man that would be cool. grabbing mallet in the 3rd would make it a great draft despite no 2nd rounder.

Project BIG continues. I doubt he'll prove to be the BEST pick. Just a safe one.

Seriously, this regime will do the same crap every year. I can't imagine they couldn't muster the plan to move up 5 spots and get Gabbert. That makes me kind of sick.

Pouncy better be an IMMEDIATE ALL-Pro at C at #15. That's really high for an interior OL. I hope he plays QB as well...

Look at it this way haters....

We either got Tiki or Ronde Barber....it could be a wash.

The problem here is that Jeff could find no one to trade down with....the beigger problem is that Jeff could find no one to trade down with and several other gms were wheelin and dealin.

That tells me no one wants to deal with Ireland. He will have to work on his people skills so.....

We got a STARTING lineman and we now have a great left side no matter if he plays C or LG. He and Incog will give us a left side as good as most right sides for running and be sufficient in pass pro.

Now all we need is a RG....the easiest position on the line and Jerry was only a rookie 3rd round starter last year.

WE STILL NEED A QB! and a RB and a TE....lol

Time to trade away next year for a second rounder....Kaep will be gone top of first....

That would make me happy.

I have a sick feeling he doesnt fit their "prototype"....6'3 250.

But the bottom line is, this guy is a playmaker. I agree, Mia1. I want Matthews as well.

The reason he wasnt an all american, was because last year was his first time snapping the ball, and he made some mistakes early in the season last year when doing so.
He is the best interior lineman in the draft, we got him, while a reach, the picked brought stability, size and strength to the middle of the line.
Besides he has the bst feet and is amazing at pulling. Sparano has got to love Pouncey's ability to pull, like he does and get those feet moving. However I cant argue, he probably went 6- 10 ten picks early.

But if he turns out to be a stud, then the pick is right on point.

Two teams that run the ball well wanted him...Pit and NYG....and he would have been gone at 19.

Ok....his brother went at 15 but in hind sight could have gone higher.

Other teams were trying to trade up for him.

Pouncey is a good pick. Too bad we could not trade down he would have been ther 6-7 picks later. He played much better at guard than center so I hope we move him there. He will be good one in my opinion.
