This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
Over the past few months, people here have said we should:
trade up to get him
draft him at 15
trade down and take him late in the first round
trade down and take him in round 2
Now some may say he may fall further than round 2.
This team doesn't have the luxury of wasting draft picks on character risks. We don't even have a 2nd round pick because we traded it away for another character risk. Let's stick to drafting players that don't need life coaches.
I agree. But--I would take him as the second player we select in the draft, after a trade down. He's boom or bust but it's been awhile since we had a QB with "boom" potential.
I would think Ireland has to take a QB fairly high, if he likes Mallett enough he'd take him no later then rnd #2 (trade down scenario), if he doesn't like him enough he'll already have a new QB on the roster by rnd #4....one would think anyway
I don't know about that but you'd have to be a sucker to want Mallet (I'm not trying to debate whether we should or not) and believe this crap about him falling to the fourth round.
If I was a team wanting him in the late first round or high second round, I'd put out this crap hoping some sucker of a team with a higher pick than me falls for it so I can snap him up with my pick.
Come on. All of these sucker traps are laid out during draft week for the unwary.
the character concerns are legit. look at ryan leaf--- all the talent in the world but a complete dbag and head case. mallet's talent is first round, but if he's got ryan leaf in him, stay away in the first, take him later and hope for the best. talent and taking someone outside the first are not mutually exclusive
I really hope Ireland does his homework on this guy. He has the potential to be a fantastic QB...or a horrible bust. I'm not convinced there will be that many good QBs in this draft. Mallett has the potential to be the best of the bunch...or not.
Mia1's comments caused me to look into Greg McElroy. Count me as someone who's intrigued.

God that's why I am talking about finaly starting to make believers out of non believer's.
Greg McElroy should be a franchise QB if taken by the right team.
ZERO character issues, ZERO baby mama drama, ZERO initial cost to invest in lol.

Some team that really wants him probably came up with that rumor. you never know.
If the dolphins interviewed him, they should have an idea about his character.
