I guess you weren't around back then to witness how JJ put Dan in terrible situations on the field, including playing him when he had a shoulder injury and couldn't throw more than a few yards. He purposely embarrassed him. Dan couldn't play, but JJ attempted to make a point by letting him play.
JJ fired Shula's OC and took away Dan's ability to audible. JJ destroyed one of the best offenses in NFL history and implemented a predictable and over-simplified system that didn't suit Dan. JJ's offense could have been run by a monkey. Why waste a future HoF QB that way?
Dan showed displeasure for JJ's system back then. It was no secret that he didn't like it. It was also no secret that JJ wasn't fond of Marino. JJ's run-first system used the play-action-pass extensively, and Dan was one of the worst play-action QBs around. It wasn't his game, and JJ hated the fact that Dan was so easily readable by defenses when trying to run a play-action.

Well I'm glad to see that you actually know more then Dan Himself. Do me a favor? What did Dan have for breakfast? How is his golf game lately? I'd ask him but you seem to know more about him then he does.

TRANSLATION: I cannot rebut your points, Monte, so I'll just devolve the conversation into what I hope will be regarded as clever frivolity. (Which it ain't.)
Parcells = skank rat squirrel marsupial with subversive greedy narcissistic complex (i.e., he eats way too many nuts and actually believes the legend in his own mind).
As someone previously illuminated – this regime got LUCKY with Chap P. On the other hand, Parcells left us with ZERO at QB and bunch of BIG DUDES with major surgery in college. The BIG slow turd team.

I really respect your opinion BNF, I just think a portion of what you said is untrue.
He left us very competitive, his major mistake was Jake Long over Matt Ryan, if we had Matt Ryan, we would be in the Conference Championship the last 3 years.
The Matt Ryan "thing" is old and we all know that was a fundamental BLUNDER-- at least those of us with highly functional neurons between the ears.
The regime passed on a LEGIT franchise QB and took the sloth in R2. No matter how you try to revise history and/or pour confection sugar on it – that MOVE defined their legacy.
And history clearly reveals the really good front offices (the ones that produce winning teams and championships) get the BIG DECISIONS right. So, Parcells helped get us off the floor, but all things considered, his results here were mediocre at best IMO.
No biggie to him. He was paid like an Emperor.
