I never talked about his autistic child, I talked about his older son.
Somone brought up his other child who is autistic.
Well Phinsfan that is what SamSam does.
He goes out of his way to start trouble, him about 2 others.
One of the holdups in the new CBA is that the owners want to bring back the salary cap, and they want it to be reduced 18% from the 2009 level. If that winds up happening, you can forget Miami being active on big name free agents. They'd have approximately half of the salary cap tied up in Marshall, Dansby, Long, Soliai, and Carey.

I don't think a cap is the answer. It's supposed to level the playing field and allow teams in smaller markets to compete, but what market is smaller than Green Bay?! The NBA has a cap, and that league is ANYTHING but level and competitive.

So montequi, what suggestions do you have? Something needs to be in place to level the playing field. Or maybe we should go back to the 60s and early 70s system and forget about parity.

As I said, Green Bay is probably the smallest market...yet they just won the Superbowl. I don't think football is the same as baseball, where the major markets always dominate (like the Yankees did for a long time). I think we HAVE a level playing field. The draft takes care of that.
Limiting rookie contracts (like the NBA does) would be something I WOULD BE in favor of. How about lowering the minimum salary for a veteran? Why should guys make almost $1 million to sit on the bench just because they've been in the league for 10+ years? Heck...how about NO MINIMUM SALARY!!!
Good point montequi, Green Bay is a small market and they won the SB. Think that might have something to do the the salary cap and parity?
I really don't know what the best solution is, but I don't like a team getting no compensation when a player becomes a free agent. Something should be done about the free movement of players and the huge contracts for rookies. I also agree that the minimum wage is just nuts. But then if I'm a player I would like it.
The salary cap has been fantastic for the NFL. It has leveled the playing field for all franchises. Revenue is shared equally among NFL teams. It is not like major league baseball, where teams like the Red Sox and Yankees have incredibly lucrative regional TV/Radio deals. The NFL has national TV/Radio deals, and they are shared evenly. And the NBA salary cap is a joke. Their cap has so many loopholes (Bird rights, mid level exemptions, etc) that they may as well not have a cap. The salary cap is vital to the success of the NFL, and they would be foolish to do away with it.
But, asking for an 18% cut is way too much for the owners to ask for. The cap has grown every year. To cut it by that much in one year is crazy. Cutting it at all is crazy. If they cut it from what it was in 2009, teams are going to have to start cutting people to get under the cap. And that's not what the players want.
