I may be proven wrong in 3 years but I'll go out on a limb and say that no matter what we do, Gabbert will prove to be the best QB in this class INCLUDING LUCK, who prefers to be in next year's class.
Gabbert could be this year's Aaron Rodgers, Rothlisberger, or Marino. It wouldn't be the first time a guy dropped in the draft and ended up being great.
As you all should know by now, I'm really big on the OL and building the team first. However, if Gabbert dropped that low and we don't take him, even moving up that small amount, it would be really dumb. You don't get talented QBs falling your way very often as we all know. We should and I believe we would get him.
Do I think it will happen? I think he will be long gone by then.

If we pass on Gabbert it would be like when we passed on Brees. The pick is beyond obvious. We need a QB, and Gabbert appears to be a good one. When Aaron Rodgers came out, I really couldn't blame us for taking Ronnie Brown. Sure, trading down and picking up Rodgers would have been great, but that's monday-morning QB talk. On the other hand, when Brees was available and we chose Fletcher, I felt like throwing up. If we do something similar in this draft, I'm going to have a tough time rooting for the F.O.

Assuming the CBA gets worked out and we can trade players to move up, I'd put Starks on the hot seat. There's very likely going to be a team ahead of us that's looking for defensive help but will miss out on the player they really want. Swapping 1st rounders for Starks so we could pick Gabbert would be a no-brainer to me.

Passing on Brees when he was a FA was one of our biggest blunders.
However, I will point out that Brees' first 2 years as a starter were not as good as Henne's first two years as a starter. The situations were very similar. Both became starters in their second year; both played decent in their first year as starters; both regressed in their second year as starters - only Brees regressed far worse than Henne did. Then in his 3rd year as a starter, Brees became a great QB. Will the same thing happen with Henne? Maybe - it certainly wouldn't be uncommon for a QB to take a big step forward in his 3rd season. So my question is this: would everyone here who is so eager for us to replace Henne have also been eager to replace Brees after 2 years?

With the coaching changes and turmoil that was going on overall during that time, I think it's likely that Brees would have survived it just by being healthy.

Actually, his pocket presence, arm strength, and delivery remind me of Brett Favre.
