...or, I'll bet, many of you out there. Check it out.
I also grew up in the Miami area which was a VERY different place back in the early 70s. I also watched the Chiefs play off game on Christmas Day 1971 and have similar memories of the Orange Bowl in those days....was in college when Marino made his debut.
How many others out there had the same childhood experience?
Berk, I've seen that site before and thanks for the link, lots more memories posted since I'd been there since.....wow I could spend all day there looking at those old pictures and posts.
Is Mr Haast from the Serpentarium STILL ALIVE at 100??? did I read that correctly? WOW. all those times bitten by snakes has done him good lol
Thanks. Only been there once on a stopover to Barbadoes in 1985. My ex had me take a taxi drive to see one of her aunts. The taxi driver was kind enough to swing me by the stadium.
Finally got a chance to read the article. It is right on.
Funny that althought I did not live in Miami, the history mirrors my life.
November of 1971 would have been when I first starting dating my first wife.
My first wife was a HUGE Colts fan and was as nuts over Johnny Unitas as I was over Bob Griese. We still keep the tradition of meeting at our old house to celebrate the birthdays of our grown sons. When I go over there, I engage in complex conversations about football and what are the current events.
The last conversation I had with my present wife about football was her question, "How each team keeps kicking the ball away after three plays?"
Well, you young pups. You have a choice. You can go for brains or.....
Next, that SuperBowl in Washington. In that other thread I talked about my best buddy from Cal (through whom incidentially I met my first wife because they were both law students together) who convinced me to go to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego where Aaron Rodgers stunk up the place. Well, he flew down from San Francisco to attend that Washington Super Bowl game at the Rose Bowl. I remember him having to catch a flight out at Burbank airport as Riggins was grinding things away.
Well, he was a HUGE 49ers fan and I flew up to Stanford Stadium a couple of years later for that SuperBowl against the 49ers. We had to scalp seats away from each other but I remember for a second at the beginning of the game an old fellow (probably as old as I am now) looking at me as Marino went quickly down the field and shaking his head like he had never seen anything like it before in his life. Of course, of defense could not stop Joe Montana.
And you're right. That's why we're spoiled as fans.
