Running backs have a very short shelf life. And Addai has had injury issues over the last 3 seasons, averaging just 600 yards per season. Once running backs start to break down, they don't usually bounce back.

Maybe he has a couple of years left. Might be a better option than ronnie at this point. Then again it may not. I don't know.

Dangelo Williams, hands down, sign that man to a 3 or 4 year deal.

Phinsfan,

Chris Johnson's ability to outrun everybody is the single reason why I like DeMarco Murray the best. Murray has had injury problems, but his ability is no question.

You should watch his highlights compared to Chris Johnson's highlights.

I actually wasnt pointing out anything other than Johnson's ability to run away from people on that video.

Sorry if it sounded as if I were butting into your debate, but I wasnt. Not even sure what your conversation was about.

All I know, is I watched the video of Johnson you posted, and his ability to run away from defenders reminded me of the Murray video I see.

I can see that as well. I would definately put Ingram/Williams in the Mendenhall/Lynch/Turner mold.

And Murray in the Johnson/Charls mold.

I like the highlites of Murray. RW is as fast as he needs to be. One thing to note of the highlites you posted is CJ2K was going up against crap defenses. Watch that highlite of RW turning the corner on ALABAMA in their NC year. Watch him outrun Miami's secondary.

Lex looked good, but once again, look at the team's he was playing. I see your point though.

Its all moot with our OL, QB, and playcalling. What would CJ2K have rushed for last year on the phins? I'd say he would have gotten hurt. He also had a HUGE drop off from his CJ2k 2009 year.

I think RW will be around in the 3rd, and we should pull the trigger on him

/facepalm....come on that's just too easy for me to jump on. grr.

Anyway, I am not really in favor of picking up any more retreads at any skill positions. We don't have good luck with it, and the the consequences of failure at the RB position are too great to gamble on someone who can't put up at least 1k yards on the ground every year. Even D. Williams makes my hackles go up.

When you are talking about free agent RBs, the key is to look for guys without a lot of mileage on them. The average career of an NFL RB is 3 years. Most teams consider RBs done at age 30. Guys that have been featured backs, and are approaching 30, they are a bad investment. What we'll likely be looking for is someone like Michael Turner was, a guy who looked great as a #2 RB, and had the potential to have a good 4 year run as a featured back.

One name that jumps out at me is Michael Bush. You could sign him, and pair him with a shiftier, speedy rookie that you could draft in round 4 or 5. Another name to consider would be Jerome Harrison. Daboll would certainly have a lot of insight into his ability, as well as our new RB coach, who both worked with Harrison the last 2 years.

I took a look at the top 10 running backs in the league for the 2010 season. Barely 40% were first round picks. For the top 10 QBs, this number was 70%.

Picking a RB in the first round is dumb unless the player is really something special. Even then, this team has too many needs.

The problem with Benson is that he's only had 1 good NFL season. And even then, averaging 4.2 yards per carry in that year, all he did was match the league average for yards per carry. In 3 of the last 4 years, he's averaged 3.5 yards per carry. And being a 4 year starter at Texas, he's got an extra 1000+ carries of mileage to think about. And then there are the arrests for assault and drunk driving.
