Are we putting together the worst coaching staff in history?

coaches do this all the time. shula did it. shannahan does it, shottenheimer does it. I think this just pisses everyone off b/c Sprorano hasn't proved he's earned the right to do it---those other coaches were good in their own right so it could be acceptable under the 'apple doesn't fall far from the tree" theory. Sproano hasn't shown to be much of a tree so far
However, I would rank coordinators as more important to the team's success than any player or player unit than QB.
For long-term success, perhaps no other factor is more important than ownership.
For multi-season opportunities at SB(s), after ownership I would say:
1. QB
2. Head Coach
3. GM
4. Coordinators
5. OL
6. QB coach
7. Defensive front 7
then the rest
If this is true, then we have question marks at best (and I'm a Henne optimist) for owner & 1-6 of my personal ranking of the most critical success factors.
To build this list, I looked at the most successful franchises in the NFL, and I think this is a fairly representative grouping at least, if not priority.
I live in KC, and they are marching to this, it would appear. It doesn't hurt that they're in a weak division, but they're really building here.
- owner gets Pioli & then trusts him
- Pioli gets his coach, who I don't particularly like
- coach gets Romeo Crennel & Charlie Weiss
- note Cassel's improvement in rating with Charlie Weiss and much-improved OL (with strong FA acquisition of Wiegeman & Lilja + solid youth)
- STRONG running game with OL & RB talent
- pretty darn impressive D overall, with strength at all 3 units
BTW Monte, are you ok, today? Did you smoke a little wacky tobacky today?
You posted a fake article, that was titled "fibbing fin", then you post on another thread that "Jay Fiedler was a very good QB."
Seriously dude, I am worried about you.....find a local support group, Alcholics annonymous, or local methadone clinic....you need to check into whichever category you fall in to.
I don't see anything wrong with your list except maybe the order of things.
Head coach comes right under GM. Then you can group the rest.
We are talking about long-term success.
If you look at the teams that always contend for a SB spot, they all have a complete team. That complete team allows them to trade players for draft choices to continually fill their roster with depth and up coming players that will take starting positions.
That is why with the position we are in now, I believe it is more important to build the team than give up good players to move up in the draft. I could be wrong, but I don't see us moving up to gamble on a QB this year. We are close to a complete team. Build the OL, add a RB and draft the best available. That best available could be a QB at #15. I could live with that but it would be a gamble.

Hey. He's the last Phin QB to win a playoff game. Can you deny that? I'd take him over Henne anyday.

Call it DFI: Dolphin-frustration-intoxication.
