If We Don't Make a Change at QB?

It seems that most people on here are finally in agreement that Chad Henne is not capable of taking this team where it needs to go. With that being said, I would be fine drafting either Gabbert, Mallett, Newton, or Locker. Personally I think any of those mentioned would be an upgrade over Henne.

My question to you guys is what if we don't address the QB position either via the draft or free agency? What would be your feelings then on the future of this team? I hate to say it but I don't see us drafting a QB. I can't see Ireland admitting he was wrong on Henne. Hopefully I'm wrong, but that's just my gut feeling.

I think the QB issue in Miami and how it is or isn't addressed this offseason will go a long way in shaping the next 5 years of this franchise. To this point this offseason has been embarassment, with the way the coaching situation was handled and also with the hiring of Daboll. Don't get me wrong, I wish the guy all the luck in the world, but it's not like we just signed some offensive genius. The guy is mediocre at best, much like Sparano.

Not trying to be doom and gloom, just being realistic. For the past 6 seasons I have made two trips each year to attend Miami home games. It's a decent amount of time and money invested, when you consider flights, hotels, tickets, and other expensenses. As of right now I don't think I'll be continuing my tradition in 2011. For the past two years the actual "game experience" has been as lackluster as any sporting event I've been to, to be honest. There is no excitement. No home field advantage whatsoever. No camaraderie amongst the fans. All of this is a result of the product that has been put on the field. This franchise has been desperate for a QB for so many years now and I hope that this offseason they address the situation. If not, it's going to be much of the same for Dolphin fans.

Ireland has clearly revealed he’s 100% willing to throw “whoever” under the bus. He is a crafty weasel-like “survivor” and will find a way to deflect whatever blame comes his way. After that he’ll reaffirm his “primary Dolphin mission” and then regurgitate a few NFL corporate mantras and sundry jingles. He is, without a doubt, a cut-throat SOB who will do whatever is necessary to avoid another spanking from mommy.

Bottom line – there’s ZERO concern about dumping Henna and going LARGE at QB position. Ireland knows it’s an absolute must for his own survival.

this season is just a place holder till we get a new regiem in here who will clean house once again. so any QB brought in this year won't necessarily be the "future" anyway. the only way sporano/ireland stay on is if we make the playoffs and win a game, and that's not happening. this is the most dysfunctional team in the nfl right now.

I think we will add a vet and a QB via the draft Locker Mallet or Gabbard if avail or Devlin, Dalton, or naybe Kaepernick later.

If we draft a QB in the 1st round, I think there's a chance we'll see them by mid-season or even earlier if the new guy fits the OC's system better than Henne. There's an outside chance someone like Mallett could drop to #15.

Monte,

There is a legitimate chance that Mallett drops to the 2nd round. The guy is getting *VERY* bad pub right now within NFL circles.

I've read issues about his work ethic. I think Cam Wake should talk to him. I'd like to get the opinion from a guy that didn't "get it" from a work ethic perspective coming out of college but had it click later on. Maybe Cam could have a sense of whether Mallett's attitude would truly be an issue or not.

I dont get "real" info from Walter, as you think I do.

Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, and especially Mike Mayock is who I listen too.

Really? I thought the word was he was lackadaisical and didn't really dedicate himself when he was drafted, which is why he was cut in the first place. He was "scared straight" after that event and had to go to the CFL to come back. How do you know what Wake was like BEFORE he was all-world?

I completely agree, i don't see this regime bringing in anyone that
would challenge chad hene for the starting job.

Agreed....Yeah maybe they really want the overall number one pick in the first round next year.

IMO, they either

1.) Don't want to admit they screwed the pooch drafting Henne

2.) Are STILL dedicated to the 'POWER FOOTBALL' formula and think QB is just not that important.

Marino dropped in the draft due to some bad publicity, including having a bad attitude ('Arrogant' I believe was the wrap he got) AND a run in with the law over illegal substances as a teenager. You didn't hear much about things like that in the pre-internet days. The only thing that bothers me about Mallet is the 'work ethic' issue. Never heard that about Dan.

I will say that playing for a legend like Don Shula probably helped cure any entitlement or 'god complex' Marino may have had. Not sure Tony Sparano would have the same effect.

I like trading down and grabbing 2, maybe 3 picks 2-4

Unless the exact QB is there at 15 I see we could do this and go after Devlin, Dalton, Stanzi, Enderle, Pryor, McElroy, Kaepernick maybe even Marshall's Brian Anderson in later rounds

I expect we will also pick up a vet or resign Thigpen

Only thing that makes sense to me is draft a guy later in the rounds, resign Thigpen and have him compete with Pennington, which will be resigned as the starter, also have Brandstater, and Henne compete for the third string QB.

Next year draft mr Luck, after trading down alot this year.
