Why is it that people always say "sense the Marino days".
We could not get to the superbowl with possibly the best QB of all time.
Why is that?
Simple, we did not have a complete team. I have nothing against drafting a QB in the first round. I just don't see us getting a franchise QB at 15 and don't want to waist another draft choise on a big gamble. Concentrating on building the team, as we are very close to a SB team, makes more sense to me for this year.
Now if that so called diamod in the rough comes up at 15 then of coarse we should go for it.
I don't like the idea of trading our good players (Long) to get high enough to reduce that risk.
There are certain things that just prove and define an NFL player for what he is.
For example:
Monday night, November 25, 1996.
Zack is a rookie.
Pittsburg at Miami.
Bettis catches a dump pass.
Zack takes him on – straight-up – and runs his ass backwards for like 10 yards.
The crowd goes nuts. Bettis looks confused. Check and mate dude! Zack made Bettis look like a girl.
Flash forward and Henna is throwing on 3rd and goal from about the 7. Fasano clears across the back of the end zone. Henna lofts what can only be termed as the worst looking POS pass ever thrown in the NFL. The ball floats high above out of the end zone like a loaf of bread. Poorly bagged bread. Bread that is so stale a rat would laugh.
The crowd collectively releases a giant, stinky, wet fart. Henna looks confused. Check and mate dude. Henna is now a certified ugly girl with irreparable body odor.
Now of course there’s a long and endless list of Henna’s POS passes and plays, but THIS ONE PLAY proved and defined what she is as an NFL player. It was just so absolutely CHOKE and pathetically amateurish a high school QB would have executed in a vastly superior manner.
Thus…
Henna = pure garbage as an NFL QB.
Henna garbage is absolutely not worth a roster spot as a backup.
We need young talent to develop as opposed to being a storehouse for the Sloth.
No thanks. Get that stinking POS freaking animal outta here. Do it

RESPONSE: True, but I'm not saying that you should rely on it as your quarterback solution strategy but only that if you choose the option to upgrade your OL, WR, AND RB and stick with Henne, what's the harm in risking a 6th round pick on a QB that has wowed the crowd at Central Iowa University?

I agree 100%. So many years we looked at Zach and JT and thought "next year!!" For years it was the same with Marino. What about Cameron Wake? Jake Long? Vontae Davis? Karlos Dansby? What about our whole damn defense? Are we going to look at that talent and just keep saying "next year...next year". Tell you what, if you keep saying "next year", eventually there won't be a "next year".
ChyrenB: I know it's only 3 years, but going back 3 years ALL the 1st round QBs drafted have been successful:
2008: Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco
2009: Matt Stafford (played well when healthy), Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman
2010: Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow (looked very good in his few starts)
I realize 2007 included Jamarcus Russell and Brady Quinn, but I'm wondering if teams have recently figured out how to best evaluate QBs after the 2007 debacle.
I'm wondering if we might find someone decent at #15.

Just ask yourself what teams drafted those players. BTW, Holmegren wasnt with the Browns. So....2 terrible regimes.

Right..so, we now have the OC from the Browns. What category does that put us in? Are we more likely to strike gold or get a lump of coal for a QB in the 1st round?
He may not be the best pure passer, but he is on tough sonabitch, and is clutch. His WRs aren't the best, and his line often collapses, yet he still completes passes.
I think he has done more with less than Brady."

I totally agree. At this point, it is hard to argue that Big Ben is not the best QB in the league.
Goodness gracious, my my don't we all have an opinion on this subject. I almost feel like I started a fire. Anyway, all I wanted to point out is that we really don't have a QB that can carry us into the future. Draft one, sign one, just GET ONE.
Sorry, Odenn. I think this took so long because PF2 is getting confused between being able to make arguments that your position is probably the better one, which is one thing, and believing that just because you can make what you see is a better argument for YOUR position, that means that to you that the other position is "unreasonable." One does not follow from the other.
