i think that everyone would agree that if we were in position to draft a top talent QB in round 1 that we should do it. But i dont want us to spend our number 15 on a qb who wouldn't go till round 2 because magically that makes them less likely to fail. at 15 i want us to either trade down or take the BPA, my guess is that there wont be a first round qb at 15

A lot of people thought Joe Flacco would last until the 2nd round a few years ago. I'd MUCH rather have him than Henne. Draft rankings are usually a guessing game after the top 5 picks or so. If Mallett falls to #15, I don't care if analysts are saying he'd go in the 2nd. I'd rather take him where we are than risk losing out on him.

Seriously? I knew you were in the military, but I didn't know that.
Flacco was rocketing up boards before the draft and became a certified #1 pick after the combine.
He sort of "came out of nowhere," but he was not a 2nd round target on draft day. No way. He was already placed mid first round.
Just watch -- some yahoo we're not familiar with will probably do it again this year. The draft pecking order is not resolved until the combine...(coupled with a few weeks of personal workouts and college days)

A lot of analysts had Henne ahead of Flacco even on draft day.

I think it is between Gabbert and Newton if we draft a guy early. I would lean towards Gabbert, as far as what Daboll said he was looking for in a QB... Accuracy, was the first thing Daboll said when he looks for a QB and he actually said it twice, repeating himself. Gabbert is defintely the most accuarate passer in the Draft. I would be down with either pick.
I think Mallett is just a younger version of Chad Henne. If Daboll, believes in Mallett, he is going to believe in Henne and doesnt need Mallett...Just my opinion...
Locker, I do not know enough about him, other then he was suppose to be at the top of draft last year, and his inconsistent play this year, really have scouts deflated on him...
i agree with bignasty that he was a first round QB, but even so lets say he wasnt, well that worked for the ravens, but other teams wont be so lucky by reaching for a player, if we could trade our first for at least a second and a third if not 2 2nds, and draft an Olineman, and a RB, Henne will probably show improvement next year, with a better suporting cast and less of a load.
But if a good prospect is there at 15, take him.
Although, i dont know of any QB's that i want in round 1 at this point.
I dont know much about gabbert, Jake Locker lacks leadership, and is inaccurate (sound familiar?), and i want nothing to do with Cam Newton, i just dont believe the hype surrounding him.

Not the best analogy. Jeff George wasn't dumb. He was just a hot head. With George (as with Vince Young), it's not about brains, it's about attitude and dedication.

Whatever. That's not correct. George didn't listen to his coaches. He thought he knew better. He was cocky and lost the respect of his players. THAT was his problem.
Henne has a gun arm like Mallett. and they look very similar moving around the pocket and throwing the ball. When I watch Mallet play it reminds me of Henne... They both throw the ball very hard, but from what I have seen, sometimes are ver inconsistant make poor throws. SOmetimes the have accuracy and sometimes they dont...
From what I have seen of Gabbert on film, he looks incredibly accurate and can place the ball well. Defintely looks like the more refined QB at this point to me...
Newton looks to be more raw then all of them, but is a playmaker, has the tools and fits the mold with his size and athleticisim and has proven to be a winner at all levels he has played the game. High school, Juco, Divsion 1. I like winners!
NO to Newton. Even with the recent success of Tim Tebow, I'm not sold on run-first QBs from college making it as NFL QBs. The list of busts is a mile long. The list of those who made it is very small.
not to mention tebow had mcdaniels who is as much of a QB guru as anyone in the league to guide him, who do we got?

There is debate about whether he is a run first Qb, look at his numbers. I would suggest he is a pass first QB, with the ability to run. He had better or comparably passing TD and completion percentage of any 1st rd passing only QB has had coming out... Bradford being the exeception his junior year in TD passes which i believe is a NCAA record
ie;
Newton had a 182.05 QB rating, 66.1 completion percentage 30 passing TD's and 20 rushing TD's this year.
Matt Ryan his best year at BC. had a 127.04 QB rating 59.3 completion percentage 31 passing TD's

I get giving Henne a chance with another OC, but the chances of hitting a late round gem like Brady are about as good as the chances of the Bills winning the Superbowl next year.
The bottom line is, Henne will be here and the chances of him starting out the year as the starter are better than any other QB, especially if that QB is a rookie.
So, Henne will have his chance to prove himself worthy.

Agreed..I want either of these two things. Either he becomes a superstar or he stinks really bad and we end up with andrew luck.
Well, it doesnt necessarily mean we will get Andrew Luck.
What if we get Gabbert, Mallett, Newton, or Locker this year...and then Henne stinks it up? It should mean we roll right into one of the rookie guys. Henne will have his chance this year.
The only way we get Andrew Luck is if *ALL* our QB's play *HORRENDOUS* and most of the stars on defense get hurt.
I am just telling you guys right now, we will have a top 3 defense next season. Young guys getting older, better, maturer under Nolan's system. Get some other healthy guys back. Our defense may be the best in the league next season.
If we had a QB, we would be competing for a SB next year.
Exactly right AO. That's the reason I can't stand people advocating flushing next season away so we can have a high draft pick in 2012. Waste of talent.
